Re: BH Companion Build

Looking great. I need some of those fancy cleco guards or anti-scuff pads or whatever they are.

Re: BH Companion Build

Get them at the local Ace hardware or order them. Just cap/bolt protectors with a hole drilled in the bottom. Google them and buy 'em in bulk.

This is just an example:

Re: BH Companion Build

After a slip/fall on ice a missed a couple of days, but had a short project planned for today, simply install a Vans throttle/mixture bracket. But it did not line up with the arms on my carburetor, so it was time to fabricate. I used the Vans as a template.

It is really nice having a shear and a brake in the hanger. Made fairly short work of the fabrication, it was nixing making my own as I set the prefect angle for the cable. I think the two coats of primer on each side took as long making the bracket.

I also measured all the control cable lengths to order on Monday.

You’re a pretty talented guy, Jay. I thought you were a golf announcer. Where’d you develop these skills?

Ha, did not have a choice, had to make the bracket as I could not find one to buy.

As for the whole plane, I have a lot of good guys giving me lots of advice.

When not building my plane I do a bit of announcing :)

Re: BH Companion Build

Love this. That’s just the bracket I wanted to build for for my 182 mixture cable. A&P shut me down. Shoulda gone Bearhawk….

Nice work.

Looking like good work as always! Don’t make it too nice or you’ll have to wear a collared shirt to fly it.

Re: BH Companion Build

Painted my middle overhead section which will also be the location and ground for my Comm and GPS antennas. Said antennas will be installed tomorrow when the mid-section is installed. Also painted the inspection covers. They are all the exact same color, just the lighting makes them look different

Installed the skylights. Where is weatherstripping on the top of the three sides that fit into the channels, and under the outside edge mainly for cushion.

Re: BH Companion Build

I have been doing lots of work this past week after being away for two weeks of work. All work at the moment is wiring and EMS stuff

Today I installed the EGT probes, installed the circuit breaker between the alternator and Master, made the wires from alternator to master and installed the pass through for the EMS wires.

Looking awesome! Every time I click on this thread, the blue oratex pops out so much. I did not like that color when I chose my fabric but now I'm really digging it - looks great. This is the first plane I've seen use it I think.

Thanks, I gave my wife the Oratex 6000 color options on 12”x12” swatches and she immediately chose the blue.

Re: BH Companion Build

Measured wing wiring, fished it down the sleeve in front of the right door and did all of the fuselage end of my right wing wiring. 2 were 4 conduit 18ga shielded, and one was single shielded 18ga. Due to the D-Sub pins only allowing for 20-22ga wire, I had to downsize via solder splices. Light power has two pin locations in the D-Sub, so it was not an issue.

Finalized EMS wire routing, firewall to right side will be left to right along the firewall with adel clamps, engine mount will be used to route the wires for the CHT’s and EGT’s

Sorry, photos would not upload, but lot of progress made

Oddly enough, I understand this stuff now, but in the beginning it looked like Chinese math
