Wow, I just now found this thread! Congrats on your new runway and ranch! I'm looking forward to flying up there to visit you guys this spring.
Down here in SW MO, most of us use #31 on our runways. On our two runways here at the farm we have some scattered lespedeza (helps during our droughts) and lots of weeds in with our fescue now. We try to re-seed the fescue on occasion.
We had a pole barn that looks like yours! We made an extension in the back for the tail of the Citabria, and cut the two front poles and rigged a truss across the top for the support. If I could figure out how to post a photo here, I'd post a photo of it. Anyway, we tore it down to build our new hangar, but it kept the airplane out of the weather till we could build our hangar.
