Night creatures
I caught this wildlife coming up to the water last night on camera.

As an ex Army Night Vision Goggle pilot, I can tell by the reflection in the eyes that this creature is a wild one!

My little airstrip is working out nicely. Still some filling and leveling to do, would like to lower some powerlines to the south so I could carry heavier loads when the south breeze is blowing strong.

I would give my left nut to fly a twotter into a strip like that!

Then maybe try Lukla...

I've flown out of Lukla, in a passenger seat of course. Scary experience to say the least. Especially when you see the tour operators sticking their foot under the scale to keep their baggage charges as low as possible....

I just put in seven more strips at my place for the fly-in guys next week. I have about 30 minutes invested in each one. That makes a total of 14. That should keep them busy.

At the Flying V Ranch its best if you have both Nuts while flying. Now my wife doesnt have any but flys better than a lot of pilots I know with them. Being a pilot with only one Nut would make an interesting conversation starter with the Bikini Girls.

I got the chance to fly My Twin Otter, C U206, a 100hp Champ and jump my parachute from my strip yesterday. It has been a long time since I used heal brakes. Didnt do to bad or scare the owner of the aircraft. It is fun having my own runway and toybox.

The number 31 fescue turns brown now that it is cold. The "quack" grass is still green. The quack grass doesnt like it when we taxi during frost but I like the green color. I can see how the number 31 is tougher and will stand up to taxing better but wish I could have something inbetween. I still have to carve up a bunch of ground to remove some of the highs and lows and want it looking nice like a golf course.

There is green dye for that problem.

I converted a polebarn into a hanger. I had to napkin engineer my own box beam and use materials I had laying around. Works out well so far and got one plane out of the weather before the snow.

Pool is closed now and have to convert those stables into a hanger next so I can get that 206 out of the weather.

Wow, I just now found this thread! Congrats on your new runway and ranch! I'm looking forward to flying up there to visit you guys this spring.

Down here in SW MO, most of us use #31 on our runways. On our two runways here at the farm we have some scattered lespedeza (helps during our droughts) and lots of weeds in with our fescue now. We try to re-seed the fescue on occasion.

We had a pole barn that looks like yours! We made an extension in the back for the tail of the Citabria, and cut the two front poles and rigged a truss across the top for the support. If I could figure out how to post a photo here, I'd post a photo of it. Anyway, we tore it down to build our new hangar, but it kept the airplane out of the weather till we could build our hangar.

Congrats again! Your place looks beautiful. It's heaven, living with your airplane out in the country.

2nd Spring here at the Flying V Ranch. Got some #31 Fescue growing on the spots I had to carved up last year. Natural pasture grasses are coming in well now that the horses are not here. My grounds handle the rain well and if I run the plane with the big tires you cant tell if I come or go. The 600x6s will pull up mud but have been able to fly any day. Just had a tornado pass a mile away and we got the hail. The hail was marble size but the most Ive seen with one of my planes outside. I need to pull some money together to build the next hangers so I can all my planes out of the weather. A hanger will not protect the planes from these tornados but at least the hail.
Only by luck I have faired better than some here in Mo.

I hope your luck holds out... Watching those twisters carve their way through mid america in downright frightening. .

A farmer with a scraper behind his tractor was working the field next to my ranch and I talked him into removing some high spots and dumping the dirt in the lows. $100 for an hour of work. Kind of loose and muddy now in spots. I am waiting for a sale on the #31 at Rural King and then will seed like crazy. Cut the front off my stables and am able to put a 206 in without wing ext. I have plans to add a 50 x 20 to the front, $3500 for materials without door.
