lol.

I think the other third lives here in San Miguel de Allende, so between us we should be able to get everyone introduced...

Re: Burning Man 2015 - 88NV

Taken this week of the burning man city preparations. Picture is being circulated on the burning man airport list.

Image

In two weeks there will be 70,000+ out here to spend a week. The two lines in the bottom right are the airport runways. They are dark because they are being watered and rolled. The runways are around a mile long with at least 5 miles of overrun. Just long enough for most of us.

Bugs!!!

I have been out there 7 times and have never seen a bug or a bat. Somehow this year the bugs are bubbling up from the earth in biblical proportions. So much for sleeping on the ground. Maybe one of those tent hammocks to hang from an art piece.

Those South African stinkbugs or whatever they are have invaded the west. We get them in mass invasions everywhere on our property and in the house. They're harmless but very annoying.

They should change the name of Oshkosh from "AirVenture" to "Burning Fuel", since it is indeed the aviation equivalent of Burning Man.

Far be it for me to advise anyone on lifestyle and closed-mindedness.... but if you love airplanes and you haven't been to Oshkosh, do that first, long before you go out to Burning Man.

If you go to OSH and miss out on Burning Man, come visit me here in LA and I'll take you into West Hollywood where you can see 2/3 of Burning Man on any given Saturday evening....
Bill, are you going to be at Copperstate this year? Oh, and just post some pictures of West Hollywood Saturday Night for me. That's close enough.

Pretty mild here in Sparks so far. They're eating the roses and honeysuckle but seem to leave the weeds alone.

Bugs and bats are still nowhere near as bad as the documentation requirements that seem to double in scope and scale every year! All to catch a couple of rogue charters. Sheesh.

They lost me when they started collected FAA pilot license numbers for their "database". Odd state of affairs for a burner community.

HSF, here we come! (instead)

They backed off on requiring pilots licenses after some protest. Still collecting them voluntarily though. Demanding a bunch of intrusive info. Smells like the BLM may be involved, hard to tell. This place has definitely jumped the shark.

On an interesting note the BLM has demanded and will receive a fully outfitted emergency response vehicle at the airport. From the permit:

“35. BRC shall station a specialized emergency firefighting vehicle at the airport during all times that the airport is open. BRC shall provide modern industry-standard technical rescue, extrication and high-angle rescue capabilities and equipment throughout pre-during-and post-event”

They would be better off putting a tower up if safety and cost were a real concern.

That's all right in line with the requirements we were always forced to comply with dong airshows. They were driven by insurance, FAA, local law enforcement and county regulations. Any public event needs a safety plan.

Re: Burning Man 2015 - 88NV

Mostly packed and of course the weather changed. Severe turbulence predicted the whole route today with heavy wind and rain. :( As soon as that clears up the smoke will come back. There is a window of good flying though.

For you PNW fliers smoke prediction. http://www.lar.wsu.edu/airpact/gmap/ap4smoke.html

Re: Burning Man 2015 - 88NV

I will be there Thursday through Monday. My company provides the fire trucks for the volunteer fire department. If you land there and need a place to camp, a ride, a bike, ect stop by. I will be in the white Freightliner Motorgarge located on the outer ring and 3:30.

The catch however is that you just cannot land and camp without a ticket to the event.

Betting this is the last year BM is held in Nevada. Looks you guys in Utah are going to get it.
