C206 Middle Seat Width? (Rear Seat Ideas for Bearhawk)

Anyone know how wide the middle seats are out of a C206? How about how much they weigh? I read on another forum they weigh 10lbs each?
The width of a C170 or 180 rear bench would work too I suppose.

I'm looking at different options for a rear seat in a Bearhawk and think something like middle seats out of a C206 or 210 would be nice. The rear bench width on a BH is 33".

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

I'd suggest fabricating something similar to the BAS or Atlee Dodge folding jump seats. I had the small 185 middle row seats in my old 170, and while handier than a stock bench seat the folders beat them hands down.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

I'm considering something like that but since my wife will likely be spending a fair amount of time in the back I want something "plush." Atlee Dodge type seats are everything but plush.

Super nice AD seats:

vs something like these middle row 210 seats.

I have a rear bench seat out of my 170 sitting in my shop. Will go measure this afternoon when I refill my fridge to give some reference to you.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

Thanks roamak and David! Sounds like 206 or 210 seats should fit nicely. I'll probably still make the BH rear bench and set it up for 3 seat belts just in case. Never hurts to have lots of options.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

My wife likes the stock bench in the 180. Its very comforatble and lots of room for her and a car seat. Also lots of room for 3 kids on the back bench. As much as I'd like the folding Dodge seats, I really think that my wife would not enjoy sitting in them. And that would mean less flying for me...

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

Rear bench seat from my 170 is 37 at the edge of seat and 38 if you go out to the pins on top of the back part of it. I have had 2 people take it home to see if it fits in their plane, (one c170 and a c180) didn't fit either, but have looked at about 5 others in 170's and its the same. So that leads me to believe they are not all the same for some reason.

This x2

I don't have experience with the FA Dodge seats, but do with the 185 "jump seats". I opted to spend some money and make the stock 180 back seat as comfortable and light as I could. My back bench now weighs less than FA Dodge seats, it's quickly removable, and my wife gives it 2 thumbs up (7 hours in one day and no complaints). I do like the fact that one can stagger the FA Dodge seats to give more elbow room.

I've heard 206 seats in a 180 is a great mod fwiw.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

I'm a long ways off from the execution phase but I'm thinking I can install the mounts for the BH bench with pins so it can come out in seconds. I'll also be able to install cessna seat tracks.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

whee, I have a set of 206 middle seats which came with my 180 project I plan to use. They are the utility style with the thinner lighter foam and cold weather fabric and fold forward backs so they can be close flat and be stacked in an extended baggage. These are much nicer than the 180/185 middle row Cessna jump seats, which I also have, which are way to short front to back with very straight backs to be comfortable. 210 middle row seats are not the same, the track width is different and the bases I believe are taller on the 210 seats. For what it is worth I think that 210 seats may be much easier to find and probably more comfortable, though they will weigh more. I will get you measurements on Friday or Saturday when i have a chance to get back to them. Getting you a weight may take a few days longer, I think the scale is up in my hangar.

hope this helps, Tim

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

Thanks Tim. I've read that the middle generation of 206 seats is the more sought after version. I think any would work for my purposes and I can alter them however I want.

No rush on dimensions or weight, I've got a long time before I'll be at that stage in my build.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

I have 206 seats as the back seats in my 185. They weigh 20 lbs each upholstered. Very comfortable.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

A friend of mine wanted to keep the bench rear seat in his 180, but wanted it lighter and easier to R&R. He stripped the seat covers, horsehair, & springs off it, and blasted & painted the framework. Then he covered the bottom & back in ceconite (similar to the BAS folding seats) and his wife whipped up a set of cushions that velcro in place. Light, simple, comfortable-- what's not to like? Esp considering that he only had about 25 bucks (and his & his wife's time) into it.
My new 180 already has BAS jumpseats, but the old bench seat came with it too. I've thought about doing the same thing to it as my buddy did, but I believe I'd have to remove the tubular side slides of the BAS seats to install it so haven't bothered. I don't usually have too many backseaters so the BAS seats will probably serve well enough anyway.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

I went flying today so I measured the seats. At the widest point it is 18" wide both seat back and bottom.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

I have a couple of 205 center seats in my garage. They weigh 15# each upholstered. Let me know if you want dimensions and I'll climb up and open the boxes. BTW, they are for sale.

You're never too old to learn something stupid.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

Thanks Rich, I think I have all the seat dimensions I need for now. I'm a ways off from buying seats and I don't want to buy anything till I'm sure of my plans. I'll check with you when I'm ready to buy.

One more dimension I could use is the cabin height at the middle row; distance from the floor to the headliner. I found 49" is the highest point in a 206 but what is it at the middle seat location?

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

Not sure if this helps Whee, but my 180 cabin height is 39 1/4" at the rear seat.
