Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

Thanks Tim. Look forward to your repost. I just placed a order from Avipro but didn't order the rear bench seat, I'm really liking this 206 seat idea.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

I remembered today that a friend's dad has a C206 that he never flies. When and took some measurements. Cabin in 44" tall and 40" wide at the front of the seats. Seats are 18" wide and 13.5" from the floor to the top of the seat cushion.

I sat in the seat and my head rubbed the headliner; no room for a headset. I'm 6'1" and short in the leg and long in the torso. I think the Bearhawk is 40" tall without a headliner so I'm not sure how it will all work. I'll do some nerding over it once the fuselage is in the garage.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

Whee, I think you're well on the right track, do whatever you can to make that aircraft comfortable for your wife. A bit of discomfort, and being in small confines soon wears thin on all but the enthusiastic aviators. I would love the 206 seats in the back of mine but they are hard to find (especially down here), being a Bearhawk I would think you could have any number of seat choices, but whatever you do keep them real comfy for passengers, even if that means having 2 seats of rear seat set up - one for mates, hunting, camping (like a lightweight sling seat) the other for travel with the family. I know what it's like when the wife says "I think I'll sit tomorrow out on the ground" knowing it was from an uncomfortable flight :-(

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

I experienced that a little with the Luscombe. I plan the make my wife as comfortable as possible in the Bearhawk.

Check out the new interior in the C206. I really like those seat rails!

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

Sorry it took so long Whee.

206 mid utility fabric seat, bottom cushion 17 1/2" wide, front to back 17 1/2", 2 " thick cushion, back 17 1/2' wide, 17 1/2" high, bottom cushion from floor to top of cushion 11" at front, 8 1/2" at rear, seat tracks 12 1/2" on center. I don't have the weight yet.
Cessna non height adjusting utility fabric front seat, bottom cushion 17 1/2" wide, 17 1/2" front to back, 2 " thick cushion, back 17 1/2" wide, 21 1/2" high, bottom cushion from floor to top of cushion 14 1/2" at front, 11 1/2" at rear, seat tracks 11" on center, 12.6# per C180H equipment list. The feet slide up into a flat tube on these, you could probably shorten 1 or 2 inches, much easier to find and less expensive.

Those tracks in the 206 photo look similar to Brownline tracks, I think the Atlee Dodge seats use those, not sure though. Used in trucks. One problem with Cessna tracks is that they crack if they flex, you would probable need some type of inverted channel under the floor to attach them to.

Thanks Tim! Great info. Getting some less in demand seats is a good idea.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

So I was wandering around the Polaris dealership yesterday and when I saw the seats used in the RZR I thought "Hey, those look really light any might work great!" I've never ridden in a RZR so don't know how the seats are; they seemed comfortable when I sat in it yesterday. Any thoughts?

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width?

This is the custom bench seat we have in the back of our 185. The backs fold down individually. As others have stated here, comfy back seats go a long way in promoting future family flying!

That bench looks great Mike.

So I screwed up the measurement of the rear seat. It is only 34" wide and the cabin is 35" so Cessna seat aren't going to work. I'm going to be looking for another option so if you have any ideas let me know.

Re: C206 Middle Seat Width? (Rear Seat Ideas for Bearhawk)

I need to start working on my back seats but still don't know what to do. I'm struggle for ideas. My current thinking is to build something similar to Atlee Dodge seats but make them really comfortable. Anyone have ideas?

Interesting how the rear seats are on those beefalicious rails and the pilot seats are still on the old standard rails. I guess the advantage is more continuous adjustment? Not having to certify something new?

Rear rail beefing is most likely a direct result of the continued increase in the beefing of the standard Alaskan tourist ;)

But really, you should see the size of some of the folks we shoe-horn into the rear of a Cub...

The "seat rail AD" for Cessna's has been expanded over the years to include criteria for the rails, holes in the rails, seat pins, and seat claws. Wouldn't be too surprised to see it expanded again to require replacement of the Cessna rails with these Brownline (?) rails. Imagine the cost...not so much to buy & install the new rails, but to replace the seats or retrofit the old ones to fit on the new rails. $$$$$$$

Woa! Me likey that black and white 206 interior . Unfortunately for me , that interior is probably worth more than my whole 206 .

As long as the cabin is wider than the seats and not the other way around, you should be able to make it work. An inch isn't too much to have to shim. I have the standard bench seat out of my 1953 C180 that's available for sale pretty cheap. I have BAS jumpseats and don't plan on ever reinstalling the bench. It's already upholstered, or you could strip it down and cover with ceconite like the BAS jumpers for light weight and less bulk.

C206 Middle Seat Width? (Rear Seat Ideas for Bearhawk)

Great looking interior on that 206. Looking at the beefed up rear rails, it looks like they have been designed to allow all 4rear seats to be removed and the rails used as tie down points with a cargo net for oversized cargo.

Naturally wouldn't remove the 2front seats hence the older style Cessna rails.

That gorgeous interior makes me wonder if any of the BCP guys would wanna pack a moose in the back??? I sure as hell would cringe.
