I have a set of aftermarket rams-horn control wheels in my 1953 C180.
I don't really care for the rams horn style vs the original style.
Plus I have short legs and fly with the seat just about all the way forward,
and the set-up I have is just a whisker too close to me for comfort.
I'd like to replace them with a set of standard 1954-and-up 180 yokes.
(the 1953 180 used the same d-style wheels as the 170, which I don't care for).
Not sure exactly which part I need--
I checked the IPC, there are several control wheel assemblies listed.
All p/n 0713042- something, the dash number changes according to year of aircraft.
-1 = 1954-55
-6 = 1956-58
-14 = 1959-up
I'm not sure just how different these are to each other.
The 1950's C180 yokes I've seen all looked about the same.
1) Does anyone have a set of these control wheel assemblies they'd like to sell or trade?
2) Can someone measure theirs, and tell me either
a) how far are the grip parts are from the panel with the "stick" all the way forward,
or better yet,
b) what is the dimension from the handgrips to the hole where they bolt onto the u-joint?

I have a couple of the old closed-loop style that were stock on 170s. Might be the same as what you're looking for? They are kinda rough, but serviceable. Available for a BCP donation. (This is for the wheel only, but I believe both use 3/4" tube. You may have to replace the factory rivet with a AN bolt.)

Hmmm, those look like early 180 yokes. Did the later 170s have that style yoke? All the 170 yokes I've seen were much more of a half circle, as opposed to rectangular like these.

Hey Hotrod (or anybody else who might be looking for control wheels in the future) -
Another possible source is Skywagon City (
http://www.skywagoncity.com). Their website shows that they have early 180 control wheels in stock, and they have been great to work with in my experience.

I have a single one, including the shaft. It says 182 on it but they are the same. If you want it PM me and I can get you some pictures.

Flipping them over helps with not getting tangled up with your legs.

Keep the Greasy side down!
Here's a photo of the rams horns I have now.

Look kinda like C172 yokes to me.
All the stock 170 yokes I've seen were d-shaped, like MTV describes.
And the early 180 yokes I've seen look like Asa's & Marty's.

Like I said, I kinda think those are 172 yokes.
In any event, not quite what I'm looking for.
But thanks for the offer.

A single won't do me much good, but thanks anyway.
If I find the mate to your single, though, you might be hearing from me.

Hotrod did you ever find the yokes you were looking for? I have yokes from a 63 182F that are coming out as I upgrade my autopilot with electric trim.

Yes, one of the BCP brothers stepped up with a pair. (thanks Rob!)
Still have the rams horns-- if anyone's interested in them, PM me.

If anyone knows how to get a hold of sardonux I'd like to buy those yokes if they're still available. I've got a 182 and those are a prefect match.

I've got a pair that have been sitting on the shelf for the past 4 years I'd be happy to get rid of. I can get a picture this weekend to make sure they are what you're looking for.

I am looking for one metal yoke replacement for my ‘62 C182E, if you still have it.

Ok. I'll check when I get home. I have 2 metal 210 yokes from a 1961 210. So they would work for sure, but in quite sure I still have the metal 182 yoke as well.
