Cessna cabin wires

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Cessna cabin wires

Does anyone have the cabin wires to stiffen the windshield in their Cessna?
Seaplanes west has the STC for Cessna 180-185.
I am looking for a copy of the form 337 for any of the Cessnas.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Cessna cabin wires

I believe Gary (shortfielder) used to have this mod on his 180 when he owned it.

Re: Cessna cabin wires

Are these like a V-brace? There was a transient C-180 (probably a 1955 or so) that had some wires that were in the same position as a V-brace, but were relatively thick braided steel wire, it appeared. Never have seen anything like that. What's the advantage for those over a V-brace?

If the stc applies to your plane model, you won't get it field approved. Buy the stc, if it fits your plane.

Ryan,

Yes, the wires serve the same function as the V-Brace....stiffens up that portion of the fuselage, especially the windshield opening.

Re: Cessna cabin wires

The kit I had came from Wipaire, and I believe is better than the v brace for the earlier 180, on a few different levels.
At the time I got mine, I don't believe seaplanes had an stc for theirs, or atleast not for my application.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Re: Cessna cabin wires

Those wires are part of the seaplane kit for Seaplanes West's C182 kit too, a required part.

They serve their function much more rigidly than the Cessna V-brace ever did. Cessna's V-brace was just attached to the top of the instrument panel structure by a single bolt, kinda goofy really.

By comparison those Seaplanes West wires are the bee's knees!

Unfortunately, there is no STC for a 170, only for 180 on up, hence my query.
If anyone would be willing to email me a copy of their 337, either wipaire or seaplanes west I would appreciate it. Just trying to get it approved on my 170.
Regarding whether it's better than the v-brace, well, the word on the street (maybe it's a wrong street) is that the wires are much better than the v-brace since they attach to the engine mount bolts and not just the top of the panel (even with a stiffener).

That should work.

Personally, I think a windshield brace should be required equipment in any 170 that ever goes off pavement. The first time I landed my 170 on skis, I couldn't believe how much the windshield moved around.....it was spooky. Installed an Atlee Dodge V Brace, and contrary to a previous post, the brace eliminated 98 % of the movement.
I agree that the wires are stiffer, but the tubing brace works fine as well.

Either one gives you somewhere to hang your headsets when parked.....multi purpose.

I've seen the wire braces, and prefer my v-brace.

When I got some instruction from Charlie Hammonds down in Houma LA, in his 185, he said don't even think about grabbing that brace. Ha!!!

Re: Cessna cabin wires

I like the v brace.
I also use it to pull on.

Another thing is: if you happen to crash i would rather have a v brace in front than some skinny wires acting like a cheese cutter

Might not make much difference in a crash but it makes me feel better.
