Cubcrafters NX Cub, trike

It probably be fun and out perform the X Cub, looks like a Tri Pacer, personally I like the looks of my 182 better.
But there will be a market for it .
If it was me I pick the conventional geared X Cub and put bigger tires, no doubt, NX also limited to smaller tires, you cannot put 29s or 31s in it, So is not for that market.
I bet they will sell tough.

Re: Cubcrafters NX Cub, trike

I realize the performance gains, with the higher available initial AoA on rotation and whatnot, but MY LORD is that thing goofy looking. They were too preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should...

Re: Cubcrafters NX Cub, trike

Equally as disgusting as a tri-maule. Neither of which has the charm/class/charisma of the almighty tri-pacer.

If this makes some pilot happy, hey why not, doesn't offend me. Without airplanes to make fun of, what's the point of this whole thing?

Re: Cubcrafters NX Cub, trike

How much for the STC and kit to make it right?!

Do these things really sell????

I feel like people spend a lot of time and money to turn planes to tailwheel. not the other way

I'm curious how they got that camera shot. Tethered drone? Does it have something to do with that UFO-thing bobbing around in front of the wing strut?

DP, I think it's a 360 camera mounted on a stick off the strut.

For those complaining about the change, here's something to think about. I posted this on the SC site as well:

It may not be your favorite design (nice to have so many choices these days!), but don't forget that every dollar they make in revenue helps fund their R&D and keeps prices from climbing when things like diminishing manufacturing suppliers have to be mitigated and funded on existing models.

If a nose gear model expands their customer base, I can't see how that's a bad thing - even to the purist.

Wonder how long before one shows up for bid on the insurance sites after its been on its back with the nose gear knocked off.
I'm sure they put a lot of engineering hours into it but that won't change fugly.

That prop sure looks close to the ground with that hard braking, wonder how close it actually is. Goofy looking, but hey if someone wants one why not?

Don't mistake me being shocked for complaining, I definitely understand that this opens their market base in a big way to pilots looking get into the STOL game, it's just not for me. Not that I could afford it if I even wanted to!

Not with that poor STOL technique he displayed in the video.

Haha...I didn't watch the video because I have super-slow internet, but unless it's intentional satire, that is a REALLY bad screenshot to start a video with!

Best comment yet.
It is not easy to look at.

I am sure it will be great at STOL under artificial conditions... I bet you won't see many turning up in AK or on your local gravel bar, especially if they don't approve big tires.

Re: Cubcrafters NX Cub, trike

I went to Cubcrafters in Yakima and flew the NX Cub. They had me land on a dry grass strip with the brakes fully applied and that nose gear totally soaked up the energy with no issue...pretty wild experience. Given that most pilots won't be doing that, it seems like under normal circumstances there is no issue with a prop strike.
