Who's got the STC for certified aircraft for these 31's and the 10" wheels?

Re: Desser introduces new tundra tire

Airframes Alaska holds the STC for their 10" wheels (originally Alaska Bush Wheel). As far as I know there's no STC for the 8" and 10" Desser tires, and I doubt there'll be one forthcoming-- so experimental only for those.

Re: Desser introduces new tundra tire

Anyone run the 22" 8.50-6 areo classic smooth tires tubeless? I have them on my mains now, love them! The Aero Classic (desser) 21" 8.00-6 I have on the nose is rated to be run tubeless, but no mention of this on the 8.50 smooth tires? I could pretty easily put my wheel halves in the lathe and cut an o-ring groove and get some standalone stems to pop in the wheels.... Getting rid of 3 tubes would save a nice bit of weight for just doing some labor. I don't really run them low enough pressure wise to worry about shearing a stem (had them on the plane for a year-ish and no issues as low as 8 psi fwiw). Thanks for any thoughts on going tubless with the smooth desser...

Re: Desser introduces new tundra tire

I'm currently working on a field approval for a certified install.
I've talked to a couple of folks who've done it.
I'll post my results.

I run the same tires and have the same questions. I suppose that it is due to the weaker walls (for their softness) coupled with maybe being run on heavier aircraft than ours (LSA). I finally pulled the trigger and emailed them to ask if it is possible to run tubeless (with the right rims) when in our lighter weight class. Will keep you posted.

Hey Mike,

I got some info on this from someone who has done it on the RANS forum. He posted the following:

I ran the desser 850 smoothies tubeless for my first 50 hours and just recently went to 26" bushwheels. I used the simple o ring kit from Matco and ran them at 12 psi. it's a really nice, lightweight setup. A friend has them tubeless on his s20 and he's got over 100 hours now with no problems. Go for it!

Only thing I have seen so far about doing this... not a lot to go on, but seems positive

Re: Desser introduces new tundra tire

I run the 8.50s with tubes at 12 psi on a 1450 lb plane - no slippage issues. I've had them down to 10 psi with no issues as well.

Re: Desser introduces new tundra tire

Thanks Todd. Still nothing from Desser yet but they may not answer that kind of questions until after hours.

Sam 12 psi is as low as I have gone also. I'd like to go lower but do worry about spinning them on the rim. I (we, LSA folks) would rather lower pressure and tubeless if there is not a good reason not to. At there full weight rating, I sure wouldn't go tubeless but my 1232# sure doesn't look like it can strain them (squish down to the rim) tube or tubeless.
