Red Hills Fly-In 2026

Well, the demise of the Red Hills Fly-In last year was greatly exaggerated. Jack and Myrna want to see the fly-in continue but are too tuckered out to host it. However, Jack's grandson Tanner and his wife Hannah very much want the fly-in to continue! This is a great, low-key weekend in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Columbia. Just a great destination to kick back and relax.

We're still shooting for Memorial Day weekend. Hope folks can make it.

If you would like to visit, Jack asks that you sign the liability waiver available here online: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfAONhWgax8XwP2Y_qPN9S84HduHHBhqWIQh3RApJRH4OqthQ/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=108626546132171293866

The safety video was prepared by aviator-gone-west, Rich Finkle, rfinkle here on the forum.

How about an airport identifier?

This sounds really interesting. That is a pretty unstable time of year weather-wise in the PNW, so it's too early to commit to the trip, but it is on my calendar. I'll start checking the weather a couple of weeks in advance and will play it by ear. It will likely be a 2 day flight from home, and that limits what I could bring for a potluck. Would a non-perishable dessert be acceptable?

Have missed it in the past but will try to make it this year. Excited to hear that they are keeping the tradition alive!

FlyHound,

That is an easy 1 day flight in your aircraft. It's just an hour south of HSF. That is only a 5-6 hour run from Snohomish in a slow 170.

Yeah, but I'm a slow starter and I don't like arriving late in the day and then having to set up my tent. I have friends and family on the Southern Oregon Coast that I'd plan to visit for the first night. That effectively breaks the trip in half for 2 very easy days with an early afternoon arrival at the fly-in. That's more to my liking. With the south winds we have today, the flight pencils out at 9 hours with my normal cruise settings in my 180 Hp Maule. Favorable winds might knock that down to 7 hours, but 2, 3.5 hour days involving a night with friends I haven't seen in a while sounds a lot more enjoyable. I fly for fun, and am not particularly goal oriented.

It's not that kind of airport.

Sure would. I'm sure you could finagle a ride into town if you wanted to do some last minute grocery shopping. It's so close for me I just drive there. I'll have my truck at the least.
