Re: Red Hills Fly in

Even if it's not we could still do some local flying if you have time. Hit some of the local strips. Columbia is right in my backyard.

Re: Red Hills Fly in

Great little strip and Scott is right they are super nice people with some great stories. For those not familiar this ranch is where Bonanza, The Adventures of Brisco Co Jr, Little House on the Prairie and more recently Back to the Future 3, Bad Girls, Unforgiven, as well as others were filmed. A few pics from this weekend

I know it goes without saying here but if you mention to this your friends please please please ensure they are competent to fly in. We don't want to ruin a good thing. The strip is not too difficult but that's easy for me to say in my plane. It does have some slope to it as well was gopher holes.

Re: Red Hills Fly in

The landable surface of the strip is 2000 ft long but it's all down hill. So you still have to do a short field landing. And please, if you fly in, fill out the liability waiver I already posted. I'm going to go visit Jack again either this weekend or next and let him know what we're planning.

Here's a couple more pictures I have of Red HIlls back in the day. This was before the movie set burned down.

Re: Red Hills Fly in

After hitting Paradise Flat I flew over to Red Hills back on my side of the valley. Here's a video of the approach. This is a lazy, high, slightly fast approach. Still had plenty of runway left.

No music on this one. Just pick your favorite song and play it along with the video. :)

Re: Red Hills Fly in

What a great idea! Columbia is my base and I fly/practice at the Red Hills often. The Moyles are wonderful people. I will look forward to meeting a few of "the locals" from this site who'll be flying in.

Re: Red Hills Fly in

I am in. I sent in the release a couple weeks ago. I did not hear anything to confirm receipt. Do I need to do anything to confirm? Thanks,

Re: Red Hills Fly in

Thanks for that Mike. No, you don't have to do anything more. I'm justing going to print off the responses and give them to Jack. I still need to firm up the date for the fly in. It will definitely be in May. Just trying not to step on the Caveman fly in.

Re: Red Hills Fly in

Stopped off and had coffee with Jack Moyle and talked to him about the fly-in. He's all for it and can't wait. Jack is a great old guy. Be sure to make time to talk to him when you meet him. Ask him to tell you about the time he and Jim Hembree landed on the island on Mono lake.

I'm going to check the calender here in a week or so and just throw a dart and pick a date. I'll try not to clash with other fly-ins. I'll post an event in the event section of the website. I'm going to try to limit it to BCP folks. Give us a chance to reacquaint and kick off the summer flying season!

Also, I'm going to rent us a port-o-potty or two. Can anyone help chip in? I'll price them out and see how much they cost.

Re: Red Hills Fly in

Much appreciated Mike! I was hoping I wouldn't get too much "shit" about it. :D

I'll find out how much they are and see what folks feel they could afford. I work for a newspaper so that should tell you what my finances are like. :D

Re: Red Hills Fly in

Okay, picked a date. It's May 24th and 25th. That's Memorial Day weekend so that may help some folks out, may hurt other folks. We'll see what happens. I'm setting a rain date of the following weekend.

I posted the event to the event section of BCP so watch for it as soon as Zane approves it. To RSVP just go to the liability waiver form and sign it. Then I'll know you're coming and can tell Jack how many planes to plan for. I don't expect too many to start with this year but that's fine. Jack's a little nervous. Doesn't want Oshkosh in his back yard. I think we can fit quite a few airplanes comfortably though. Once we show Jack how good we can be, I'm sure he'll look forward to even more in the future.

Count me in also. Do you have a phone # or address for contributions? Is it possible to drop in and see the Moyles pryor to the Fly-In?

Re: Red Hills Fly in

Thanks Hawk I appreciate that. I don't know how much it's going to cost yet so I'm not asking for contributions yet. I'm thinking folks can just send me some money via PayPal. I'll give the company a call in a week or so and then start begging for money. I can't imagine they cost that much.

Yeah, Jack and Myrna love visitors. Just fill out the liability waiver first. If you want I can fly in there with you and introduce you or you can just drop in. Just don't go unless you have lots of time. They are talkers. :)

Re: Red Hills Fly in

Thanks for the info Scott. I am out of KCCR, maybe we could get together one of these upcoming days and fly there or some of the other strips. I don't know if you remember or not but we met once last year at Columbia. I was flying a white/yellow/black C182 (Bumblebee looking).
