Drafty vents - but from around the vents?
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?

Hey guys,
I bought some of those precise air vents for the forward vents at the top of the windscreen. I thought the cans were leaking profusely, which they were, but now that the vents themselves are tight I realized I have a lot of air leaking in from around the vents. Yesterday flying back from SLC at -10*F really brought the issue front and center.
Anybody else dealt with this and have an idea of what to do? My instinct is to check all the scat hoses from the leading edge inlets to the vents to see if one is loose and allowing air to be rammed into the wing.
The second thing I was wondering is if there is supposed to be a seal of some kind around the OD metal tube that the vents slide into? I vaugely remember seeing there was a sizeable gap around them. I looked in the parts diagram and couldn't find anything.

You might be missing the Cessna green duct tape that covers the gap between the windscreen and the wing underneath the wing/fuselage intersection fairing

Besides the windshield being taped, I cut some some foam to go around the vent tubes behind the interior fairing.
That also seems to help with drafts.

Cessna originally stuffed yellow fiberglass insulation in there, I like the foam idea better.

Gorilla has some black "duct tape" thats 3" wide. perfect for taping up the windscreen/fuze gap. Stuff some home insulation in there and enjoy the "somewhat" less leaky cabin. LOL

The foam idea is a good one, however if you have air blowing from the wing root it's likely that, as you mentioned, something is disconnected in the wing. On my 205, the wings inner vent inlet provides air to the rear seat vents via scat tubes, and the outer wing vent inlet provides air to the front seats via an aluminum tube. I know on mine the aluminum tube and the scat tubes are secured with a long cotter pin which is a bear to re-install if any of it is removed for maintenance access or to route wiring through the wing. You might be able to find the leak by removing the inspection panels and using the blower side of a shop vac held up to the wing vent inlets. Just don't forget to clean the shop vac first lol.

Well, I definitely found one source of air. The outer wing leading edge vent inlet on the right wing was completely separated, that must have happened very recently. Looks like a prior repair had failed. But that only explains one side.
That said, are there any other common sources of drafts besides the obvious door/window seals?
