Holy cow! I’m sure it seems like a huge investment, but she’s absolutely beautiful! I’m sure it’ll be a dream to fly after all this work as well.

Test fitting the new carbon fiber interior panels - these things are crazy light, I've had the Selkirk in the past - these are lighter, stronger, and fit much better. I really like that wing root pocket panel. It will have a front to it, either a stretchy cargo like netting or a perforated aluminum panel (about half height) that matches the one across the top of the glareshield (this is what I'm leaning towards). Still deciding on that. The boot panel will have a leather pocket in that insert.

And before any one asks about galvanic corrosion - all the carbon fiber panels have a single layer of fiberglass on the backside, primed, and painted, plus the interior was painted as well. Should provide plenty of a barrier

I don’t thinks so, they 3D scan the interior to get the fit they get, I believe they just offer for 180/185’s right now. But might want to give Cole a call.

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

I asked for a price for the parts to do my 185. Apparently if you have to ask, you can’t afford it! $10K USD. They announced that they were going away from gel coat and beginning to paint the finished product. It was to simplify their manufacturing and provide efficiencies. Not sure if they were able to reduce their prices as a result, or if it was just to become more viable and speed deliveries.

Progressing along - lights are in installed

Nice and bright - have a few dead LED’s in one of the tips - need to get Willie to exchange that out - should not be a big deal. The metal flake in the black really reflects the light.
Image
Finishing up the VG’s - then the vertical stabilizer cap and the tail is done.

Wow, incredible! Getting close. I can hardly wait for the pictures of the completed airplane and I bet you can hardly wait to fly her. Nice job!

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

The lighting in the photo’s are not the best, but the MT blades are done - prop was sent off to Tiffin Aire for overhaul and painting. Pretty happy with the results.

Paul,

Fantastic project. I'm very excited for you. It will be a very special plane for sure. Tiffin does great work. They repainted my prop a while back. I was very pleased.
