Escalante (1L7)

So, just moved to Escalante, UT from White Mountain, AK. I have a new job working in the clinic, back to seeing patients no more administrative duties =D> . What has turned out to be the hidden gem is the City has been holding the airport house, hoping to get a Physician Assistant hired for the clinic. So, here i am, living at the airport with my plane just down the hill, better yet, a hanger will be part of the deal when the current lease holder moves out shortly. But wait, there's more, this place has a great camp area and pilot lounge. The electricity and prep-work for putting fuel has been done, though it may not be complete until Spring. The City, RAF and several other entities have joined to make a really nice facility here, they just needed someone who gives a crap about the place.

Lots of great hiking and things to do here. Several great restaurants (at least during tourist season. I know it's not backcountry, but some good strips nearby, already thinking about the first annual BCP Escalante fly-in.

I admire your enthusiasm for 1L7 slowhawk, no doubt it's a diamond in the rough (as with much of Southern UT).

Congrats on the new position and turning a new page in life. Please keep us posted.

Sweet, slowhawk! That area is a lot of fun to explore. We flew in there back in 2007, camped at Escalante and went to the high school rodeo there, did lots of hiking etc.

Sweet. Escalante is a paradise and you are living there. =D> =D> =D>

You have most of the equation covered, now you just need a KTM 690 and a jeep. I'll stop in next time I'm in town and say hello. Your living the dream!

I like Neys adventures down there..

Brought an ATV down in the back of the U-Haul, so the KTM and Jeep will have to wait for now while we recover from the move #-o . But yes, there is a lifetime of stuff to do and see just w/in 20 miles of the house, let alone the rest of S. Utah.

Glad things are looking up and hope they work out that way for real. I have a soft spot for southern Utah also----Panguitch----I remember stopping there when driving a truck and thinking the women in this town are all beautiful!!!! Also remember loading calves at Boulder that isn't far from where you are now.

Kinda like this? Still searching for an affordable reproduction service. These cost me $27 each.

Re: Escalante (1L7)

I'll do some more research on a better way of getting them printed. I'm not that impressed with the quality of this one I have in my shop. Definitely not worth $27.

Hay Slow, Sorry we didn't get together before you flew the coop!! Dam snowbirds!!
Sounds like you hit things the way they are supposed to be!! Congrats, Maybe this spring I can come South and say hello instead of North!!
On the poster you might just have to staple up an old T shirt or hoody and call it good for awhile
Still here just a little NE of Nome??

Re: Escalante (1L7)

Hey George,
Yeah, sorry I missed you. Called and left some messages, but never got through, but as it was, working 3 full-time jobs the last 2 years, I hardly had time for anything but work. All better now though =D> . Come on down, this is a GREAT little airport in an absolutely beautiful place.

I initially thought about hanging up a T-shirt, but when I looked, only the Johnson Creek ones were left. And no, didn't get to see the Mounty on the way through, either time. I was under a time crunch, as always it seems, and was on the ground maybe 30 minutes on the flight down. On the drive, I got in at 23:30 and left at 04:30

Did some work out at the airport campground, Cleaned out a bunch of half buried wire and posts from the edge of one of the campsites.

A little family project, built a wood rack for the campground firewood, then enjoyed a little winter picknick.
