Doing some work in the pilot lounge at the moment, Finally putting up the excellent BCP poster Zane sent me Will get some pictures up when i'm done

I love Escalante, what an awesome place. A courtesy car would be wonderful as, like you say, there is so much to see within a few miles of there.

I am looking for more cool aviation pictures for the pilot lounge. I have the BCP poster up, and RAF is sending one, but the walls are still rather sparce. So, if one of the talented soles here have some to donate or if there are some ideas, I would appreciate it.

The pilot lounge is starting to take shape. As you can see, there is a lot more room, need to find some more cool stuff to put up.

On another note, had a little snow, sure thought i was done with that

Fortunately, the city guys come out and plow most of the ramp and runway. Just am in the process of hooking up a snowplow on the ATV to do around the plane and house.

It's just ironic that I have done more snow removal here in a couple months than I did in 8 years living in western Alaska Must be civilization

When I chaired the Laramie airport board, at first we had a 1938 Reo dump truck with a plow on it, to clear all the runways--not too efficient, and it often broke down, but usually only for a short time before it could be fixed. But one day the manager called me to tell me the rear axle had broken and it would be down for several days--and we needed to be plowing, because a storm had just lifted, leaving the airport choked with snow. So I told him to get ahold of the City, the County, and the Highway Department and see if anyone could spare a couple of plows to clear it quickly. I don't recall who he called, but they came right out, and plowed the main runway, 21-3. Only problem was, they left a large berm right in the middle, down the centerline!

BTW, in the next year we qualified to get federal funding for a new pair of plows, a humongous blade on an Oshkosh dump truck and a self-powered rotary on a big articulated John Deere tractor.

Make sure you go meet Rick and Amy Green who run http://www.excursionsofescalante.com/ and go out into the canyonlands with them. You will see some amazing stuff! I was just exploring around Baja California Sur with Rick and they are down there for another few months.

I also know the owners of Escalante Outfitters - the all in one store.. liquor, outdoor gear, pizza, coffee, cabins.

Lastly, Kiva Coffee house is a spectacular place for the best view with a cup of coffee. http://www.kivakoffeehouse.com/

That would be nice, but my main goal is to get a wildlife fence. Most days there are deer standing around and on the runway. Alaska, I would decrease the population by eating them, guess we're to civilized of that in these parts.

Thanks, have already met and talked with Amy several times, hope to get out with them before the tourist start showing up. And yes, have been to the Outfitters several times.

Kiva was closed about the time we got here, but we have been out there.

Have you met Dave over at Circle D? He's a Chicago - Salt Lake transplant and a great guy. We descend on the Hotel in September with 20+ dirt bikes and he treats us well.

The guy that own the gas station/subway is cool too. He had us in stitches one night telling us about the "earthworms" that had gone out to the desert to worship the spirits of Everett Ruess every year…

Any updates on Escalante? A buddy and I will be in the area in early April with a 180 and a Carbon Cub, and will probably stop in for gas and a shower if necessary. If there's a courtesy car by then, I'll fill it up!

Fuel at last!!!!!!! 4.89/gal cheapest in the region, except for Cedar City (sphere one) who owns the tank here.

After a long, frustrating process of getting the electronics up and calibrated and the leaks fixed from years of no use, the pump is finally working!

No courtesy car yet, but we have an extra car that we have loaned out for trips into town. If you want to head out to the desert, High adventure in town rents jeeps and ATV's.

Working on making a gravel path from the ramp to the campground and up to the pilot lounge, the dirt/sand turns to pudding when it gets wet . Got the city to donate a bunch of gravel

Flew in to Escalante on Saturday for lunch after exploring some backcountry strips. The food at escalante outfitters was fantastic. Good thing I brought the trail 70 along to get us into town as the airport was dead quiet!

Darn, sorry I missed you. We went over to Kodachrome basin Saturday, hadn't been there yet.

Circle-D and Cowboy Blues are great eating too, you'll have to come back and try them out. Until we get a courtesy car, or if i'm not home to loan out ours, High Adventure in town will do a round trip for 20.00 (kind of steep I know, i'm working on them to bring the price down)

Any developments on a courtesy car? We are kicking around ideas for Memorial Day weekend and coming to camp at Escalante and go see Bryce and Capitol Reef have come up.
