Re: Fall La Garita, CO Fly-In - Sep 23-25 2016

Bummer, that is the weekend that the Utah BCP are having their annual event in Huntington (69V). Those guys did a great job over there last fall, it would be a shame to miss it this year.

But La Garita and crew are something special as well.

So many choices....so little time. Perhaps the weather will play a part in the final destination decision. We'll see.

Re: Fall La Garita, CO Fly-In - Sep 23-25 2016

It looks like I'll have to miss it. Airplane's good, but the FAA pulled my SI--seems my blood is either too thick or too thin--and it's unlikely I'll get it back by then. Darn!

For those who haven't been to La Garita, it's a pretty easy strip for those with high elevation, mountain experience, and a beautiful location on the west side of the San Luis Valley. The managers of the ranch are delightful people, as well. The only downside has been that the wind can kick up at times, fairly typical for the San Luis Valley.

So have fun, folks!

Sounds great Cody, the more Wray folks the better!

It should be a great weekend to get some mountain flying in. Weather is looking good (as of today), colors should be at or near peak, and we already have a great group of folks registered. We even have a few open cabins left to reserve

I have a cabin next to the main lodge reserved, it has two queen beds if anyone wants to share half of the expenses.

Re: Fall La Garita, CO Fly-In - Sep 23-25 2016

Checked out the strip as well as Morning Shadows this past Sunday. Both in great shape.
I have asked the Rio Grande County Commissioners about dropping the price of 100LL at the Del Norte Airport (KRCV) for the weekend. Should know by Wednesday. Going to be a great weekend, the aspen above Creede are amazing right now, lots of red this fall.

I'm sorry I'm going to miss this one. I'll be busy trying to get to El Salvador and Costa Rica in the rainy season dodging an erupting volcano in Guatemala. If it wasn't for that, I would be there for sure!

Re: Fall La Garita, CO Fly-In - Sep 23-25 2016

Just got back from a drive to Lake City. Snowing all the way over, sunny the way back. The colors are absolutely stunning. High country covered in snow (snow line about the elevation of Creede, actually). Aspen at their peak. Incredible!!!
Early arrivals are going to have quite the views.
Sorry, never did hear back from the Commisioners on a fuel price break.
Lee is going to start cooking around eight at Morning Shadows, but realizes that people will trickle in all morning since nobody got here today.

I knew it was REALLY windy when my dad called and said he turned around. Hopefully you'll see him, my Bro in law, and my nephew today in MY airplane. If you see him abusing it, let me know.

I had a great time and it was great to see old and new faces. I could only run over for a mid day trip, so sorry if I wasn't able to say hi.
