I've been a big fan and user of Aeroplanner for years. But lately it seems like I get an error every time I generate one of their "Trip-Tiks". A PDF with all the stuff that the FAA wants you to have for a flight, including charts. It's great when it works. Even though I've recently renewed I may finally jump ship. So what is your favorite online flight planner?

I'm familiar already with Weathermeister and it doesn't provide the detailed info that I'm looking for; charts, runway diagrams, NOTAM's, TFRs, etc, all in one package.

Out of curiosity, why not use foreflight? Or one of the android tools?

As another mentioned, I like skyvector also. But it's very limited. Really only useful for sketching out a plan or emailing a link to a route to someone.

I'm a big fan of www.iflightplanner.com. One of the great options is the ability to see your flight path overlaid on a street map in addition to the more traditional Sectional, Terminal or IFR charts. The NAVLOG this system creates can easily be copied and pasted into a spreadsheet where you can modify the layout to suit your personal needs. I like to add the frequencies for each airfield I fly to, or fly by, and that is easy with the formatting of their content. The weather overlays are also the best I've seen on any platform. Try it and you'll like it!

I guess I'm old school and like to have paper backups. I don't want all my charts to be electronic.

I've been using Foreflight exclusively since last Fall to plan my flights--I've had the FF program for about 16 months, but didn't start using it to do the flight planning until then. It makes life so simple! Plan the flight, push the right buttons, it gets filed, I get an email that it's been filed, and shortly before my projected take off time, I get another email telling me the expected routing, which may or may not match my filed plan, but that routing so far has matched with my actual clearance.

Oh, and I do still have paper charts for backup (not necessarily current ones)--although I haven't used them since last Fall.

+ 1 for ForeFlight. Been using it for a few years now and it's great.

Only down side is it's only available for Apple products, I believe.

WingX Pro, excellent.

Foreflight integrated with a duat account. The sportys "flying with foreflight" tutorial shortens the learning curve. I still like sky vector too if I'm away from my iPad.

Those are all cool, just still really looking for something that I can print out on paper. I have Avare for inflight as well as my Garmin 396 with XM weather. But I want all the NOTAMS, sectional charts, and runway diagrams on paper for when the batteries fail. Or the EMP pulse hits or whatever. Again. Old dog. Old school.

I just wish Aeroplanner would fix their friggin' software.

Woah, I can't imagine printing out that much (in color to be really useful) for every flight. Do you heat your house in the winter with flight planning documents?

Every flight? Heck no! Just for outside the normal patrol area. When I go up to JC, or Oskhosk or something like that.

And yeah, I do print them in color. Perk of working for a newspaper. Lots of paper, lots of printers.
