Feel The Heat
Aircraft building and project-level overhaul forum -- Kitplanes, experimental amateur-built, homebuilding, or even restoration of certified aircraft.
Looking for input on what to use as insulation on the cabin side of the firewall, personal experience etc.

We did Sellkirk foam on two different 170s worked out great. It’s a little hard to see because it’s black inside of the airplane but that’s the only thing I have in the airplane for an interior and I love it. We’re out camping now at orcas Island in Washington trying to beat the heat this weekend

I used the 1/2” Selkirk foam on the back of my firewall and footwell sides. Easy to fit and looks good. Came with a burn certificate.

Is there a Canadian source for the Selkirk foam, I don't see it offered on Aircraft Spruce Canada site ?

I bought direct from Selkirk. Small family business, super helpful.

I used this stuff on my 206. Far as I can tell it's very similar or the same as the Selkirk. It is adhesive backed, but I still used some Super 77 contact cement to attach it. Very happy with it. I used the 3/8" stuff everything.

They do sell bulk. They managed to get 9 ft of 1/2" into a box and ship USPS. $288.50USD delivered in Canada.
I think some people use the thinner stuff on side panels.

How effective is the Selkirk foam for insulating the firewall? I was cooking in there yesterday. I have zero insulation anywhere in my plane, its hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
