Fools Errand

Something about this may already be posted here , but I just watched it ,awesome. that’s what aviating is all about . if one plan doesn’t work out, make another ,it’s about the journey not the destination. thanks for putting that together, Inspires me to mount up and go play

Re: Fools Errand

The z-man was up late last night trying to push it out.

I think one of the coolest parts is that he composed all of the music for it, with a kid on each leg. A man of many talents, but still a poser.

Re: Fools Errand

Thanks! Glad you guys enjoyed it. It took far too long to make for such an inane video. I'm glad it's done. Here's the description I gave it:

Adventure is not necessarily found in success, but rather in the salvage of a failure. When nature shuts the door, go home and eat some beef.

The best pilot buddy film of 2019 has been a full year in the making – not because it's good but because it was never meant to be. We hardly shot any footage, but it has somehow accidentally become an actual story of Alaskan perseverance in landing somewhere...anywhere.

He's a British voice actor I hired here in Portland who has a nationally syndicated radio show called The Score, all about film scores. Awesome guy.

Re: Fools Errand

Another good one!

What time of year was this shot? Some of the scenes really reminded me of northern Minnesota during the last few weeks of fall.

Re: Fools Errand

That’s the Alaska I know.

“Let’s go there.”
“Good idea. No, the weather’s crap there.”
“Ok, let’s go to this other place.”
“Great! Oh, wait....the weather is crap at the other place.”
Etc.

Yea, that one came out pretty good, and it was pretty cold outside. I was pretty impressed with my little electric rig. I didn't think it would keep up.

The original footage was shot first week of May, a week before Valdez. The interview a bit later, I want to say December? And the B-roll for Willow, the following May.

Re: Fools Errand

Great vid! Made me grin right from the beginning. And when I stopped grinning some other cool scenes came along and I started again.
Great editing Zane!
Inspired me to seriously think about shooting some video myself once I take my 170 on a circuit through the eastern states.

Re: Fools Errand

Very enjoyable. Makes me want to get back up there--it's been 46+ years since I left, and it's always fun to see some of the places I flew as I was learning waaaaaaaaay back then.

What a hoot. Thanks for persevering Z. I'm almost glad you didn't make it. I didn't want to see you share a tent either...
