I'm always up for hanging with a fellow aviator. You guys are gonna be bummed though, when you find out most of my pics are AI generated and captioned by a Chatbot. Saves on Avgas.

Haha. That's funny. You'll be pretty disappointed when I show up with a baby-tired retractable... Feel like I'm a poser around here right now.

Re: Fraser Farmers Western British Columbia Trip

I took my youngest daughter Evelyn, for a day of fishing in the mountains near home. Only a 10 minute flight to this little lake but no road access so we had it to ourselves. We got to try out the inflatable boat and motor a little more, I timed it, 30 minutes from touching down on the lake with the plane to putting our lines in the water to fish, so the boat assembles and inflates pretty quick considering what all had to happen in those 30 minutes. The fish were very small but lots of them. We didn't keep any.

Great little trip, good to see the kid enjoying these little adventures. Always love your reports and pictures.

I was out your way in April. Didn't quite make Innsbruck, but did Salzburg and Vienna with a quick stop between at Hohenwerfen and Hallstatt. Hoping to get back in the next year or two for a couple weeks skiing in Innsbruck.

Re: Fraser Farmers Western British Columbia Trip

Yesterday John and I went up to the top of Jervis Inlet to do a little crabbing and salmon fishing. It was a beautiful spot to explore, with a big estuary with lots of wildlife to enjoy. We took the zodiac up the river through the estuary and up to the lowest rapids where we beached and had a swim to cool off. Remote spots like this are nice because your crab traps don't get robbed by other parties, in this case though there were no crabs to steal, we got skunked.

Flat day. The hairs on my neck always stand up a little when I have to thread the wing between a couple of pilings. And then wonder what the wind will be doing when I get back.

That zodiac sure is working out for you.

I think this is my favorite thread. The story keeps going. Thanks Matt.

I know what you mean about the pilings for sure. These ones are fairly close and it's a short dock overall. I approached from the side I'm parked on and basically aimed to T-bone the dock at the outer end, I cut the power early and drifted in real slow and about 10 feet out I kicked the right rudder and basically bonked the tip of the left float into side of the dock right at the end piling. Then I just hopped out and rotated here into place with a light pull on the dock.

The zodiac has been an amazing tool to explore new spots. Easy to load and it pumps up really quick with just the foot pump. I had to give up on the ultra lite 2hp Evinrude for the time being, it just wasn't reliable. The 5hp 2 stroke Merc is still fairly light and it'll plane the zodiac so it's pretty nice in the mean time.

Re: Fraser Farmers Western British Columbia Trip

Over the summer we purchased a piece of property on Gun Lake up in the mountains. Nothing fancy at all, a bare property that got burned clean off in the 2023 forest fire in the area. Today the stars aligned for a quick run up to the property to have a little lunch and a campfire and plan out the next steps for the place. On the way home we overflew my sons Outdoor Rec class paddling a local river. On the way up we bucked headwinds, with ground speeds as low as 75 NM but only minimal turbulence. On the way home we cruised down the sea to sky corridor at 140 NM ground speed.

Bumpy ride with that kind of tailwind? Looks like you’re on the west side of the lake. It’ll green up in no time. Strip is close by for visitors on wheels. After freeze-up some of us have landed on the lake.
They’re keeping the Hurley open, so a nice back-up.

Yep, we're on the West side at the North end, kinda next door to Blackcomb Helicopter. It does green up pretty quick but the trees take a while. We'll actually do some re-foresting on our property once we've decided where the buildings are going. The airstrip is close for sure and we're hoping flying friends can come up and join us, and we may have to get a set of skis for the plane. We'll see.
Do you mean they plan to keep the Hurley open year-round? For myself it's quicker to go up the canyon when driving.
