Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.
It looks promising but when you look at the coverage map there are some real big holes in the coverage especially out west. Also wondering about Canadian coverage - if any.

It looks like the coverage leaves lots of holes and doesn't include Canada:

Two questions:
1. Is this the "should be in place in 2013" dream map or is it current?
2. Are the altitude figures agl or msl?
Thanks,

Here's a map.

That's what I feared. I tried to open that map recently and again tonight. Demands too much from my old computer and locks up the browser.
Thanks for the reply!

Yep, for now, the coverage just isn't there. Satellite is the only way to go if you want weather (METAR's, TAF, Radar, etc.) anywhere, anytime, right now. Especially in the back country!

The other issue is if you were stupid enough and uninformed and happened to get an ipad with out the cell service and had to buy a Dual GPS for it(because it doesn't have one) it will only run 1 bluetooth acc. at a time, so you can have weather or know where you are??
I guess there is an advantage to have the bad elf GPS!
