If I won the lottery, there would be signs.

Re: Goals: PBY camping

That's a pretty spartan PBY. It seems all of the camping gear was from a car-camping box just tossed on the plane. I've seen modified versions that had real built-in comfort with functioning kitchens and real beds. If you can afford to own and operate a PBY, you can probably afford to set it up well for your intended purpose without having to resort to using your normal camping supplies to make it functional. Here's a history of some of the more famous conversions. Now this is airplane camping my way! At least my way if I had unlimited funds.

It’s all fun and games until someone attacks you with a machine gun.

Didn't Jimmy Buffet have a Grumman set up to be a fishing RV?

Re: Goals: PBY camping

Buffet owned an Albatross and later a Goose. I think both were outfitted for amphibious camping. The Albatross obviously had more room for comfortable living, but was also a heck of a lot more expensive to maintain.

I seem to recall that something similar happened to Lowel Thomas Jr,
when he & his wife flew their Cessna 180 all around Africa & the middle east back in 1954.
Guess it's time to re-read "Our Flight To Adventure", which I'd recommend as a great read.

Re: Goals: PBY camping

I'll take the PBY over the Albatross! Got about an hour in the HU-16 while at Davis-Monthan back in the 80's
