Re: Handstand Challenge - Something a little different

It's pretty amazing that the handstand thread already has two pages and almost 700 hundred hits and the other fitness thread "The Useful Load Challenge" is up to six pages and almost 2300 hits!! There's nothing better that any of us can do to improve our energy, well being and overall health than to take care of our physical bodies. I also belive that there is no one on here that in one way, shape or form cannot complete this challenge. My 73 year old step mother in law crossfits every morning at 6AM! :D

Re: Handstand Challenge - Something a little different

I've known some crazy pilots, but this is beginning to be gathering thereof! :)

I couldn't do a handstand when I was a kid--not a chance now, without Courierguy's crane, after Gump gets done with it. Even then, I'd probably pass out when the blood filled my bucket head--question, would it make my hair grow back???

But keep posting the pix, guys--it's fun to see the nuts on the forum at play.

Bump...this is not going to just go away...

All the forum talk about how to fly and the examples we set, let's see your handstands!!!

Many of you said your in but let's see them..if you need a crane to hold you up, modify the handstand with your knees resting on a bench or chair.

As for the airplane doing a handstand, I have one of those as well... #-o

Re: Handstand Challenge - Something a little different

Back when I lived in Japan I entered a skateboard contest. I won the freestyle category by doing a handstand on a skateboard. The win got me on TV (NHK) and a magazine interview. It does not count here but, it is a harsh reminder that I weighed 155LBS vs 200LBS now. [-o<

Re: Handstand Challenge - Something a little different

Love it! I do handstands regularly as part of the gymnastics workouts, but getting a picture next to my airplane is going to be a bit of a challenge. Going to have to be in the snow. Perhaps next spring, LOL.

Re: Handstand Challenge - Something a little different

Well, I went from needed a wall (while knocking pictures off of it) to being able to attempt a handstand (in an open area away from obstructions and hazards). I hope to be able to do a handstand for 10 seconds in a few weeks. Any helpful advice for a rookie?

When I do a hand stand I will have my feet alittle ways beyond my back so instead of being straight up perpendicular to the ground my feet and calves are slightly beyond my back if that makes sense. It helps me keep my balance alittle more than trying to keep them straight up.

Re: Handstand Challenge - Something a little different

Awesome MM. You just keep working on them; they will get better with practice. My gymnastics coaches are always saying "keep it tight", meaning legs together, toes pointed, no slouching, etc. It requires some core strength. Keeping tight does help, but just keep practicing and they will just get better and better.

Re: Handstand Challenge - Something a little different

CG that is awesome! I know that there are a number of folks on here with photos just like that! Not texting for me...I was taxing around cones very very slow and pivoting around when suddenly up and over she went...

MM- that is really great. Keep it tight...squeeze your butt, legs, point your toes while learning. Go back to the wall but walk up it backwards. (start in a push up position with your feet against the wall and slowly walk up it) You will then be vertical so that you can press your chest against the wall allowing you to be vertical. Hold that and find your balance and then start to walk. You can also use the wall to walk side-ways for a bit to build hand, wrist and shoulder strength while finding your baclance. Using your fingers is key. The fingers are like tree roots if that makes sense. Dont walk on a flat hand

In just two short weeks you will be amazed how much stronger you are and feel pretty good about yourself doing it.
Awesome job!

Where is everyone else's???

I am working up my courage to try it. Just getting mentally prepared at this point. It sounds fun - but it's been a long time.
