High Sierra 2021

Can't believe nothing on HSF 2021. Looking forward to seeing old friends. I hope the weather cooperates. I was at HSF mud fest. Don't need that shit show again. My plan is to arrive Thursday.

Any old friends want to camp together?

Cheers...Rob

Hey Rob!

I'm most likely headed down Wednesday late afternoon/evening. I have to leave on Friday, but am going to make the most of Thursday/Friday morning.

Looking forward to seeing you.

I miss seeing friends from the old days. Hope you have a great time at HSF. It’s too big for me be these days.

If you want to come freeze, I plan to be at Cold Meadows next month.

Re: High Sierra 2021

Too big, too loud and too many generators with lights for this old man. I liked it in 2015, but when I returned in 2019 it wasn't my cup of tea anymore. Kevin's new rule that you have to be attached to an airplane to attend may help, but I like my desert visits to be smaller, quieter affairs where you can actually see the stars. Zane's video from the 2014 event is what got me interested in flying again. The new High Sierra isn't that event. It's doing great things for aviation enthusiasm, but it's targeting a younger, harder partying crowd.

I’m with you. I would make it a fly in only generator free event. It is still really cool to see so many neat planes and like minded people.

I won’t make it this year but hope to be back next year.

Re: High Sierra 2021

I'm planning to be there for a day or two - but not going to stay the whole time. I agree it's kinda crazy how many people are showing up to this thing now. We plan to scoot down south to Bishop and get some rock climbin' in. I'll be in a rented mule so's not excited about mixin' it up with all the Jerries. We'll get 'er on the ground and won't move till we leave for good. Have been out of the fly-in game for what seems like a bunch of years so I hope it goes well for all of us. Head on a swivel, y'all! Hope to see ya 'round.

The first year I went I met a really great guy. He is "tea bagger" that lives in BC. Have seen him at a few other fly ins. They will not let him out of Canada (Covid rule) Should just fly up to BC to give him crap.

That’s the best thing about HSF is the people you meet. I even met a submariner in the desert. Next year Tim for sure. Hope to get down sometime soon somewhere else.

Re: High Sierra 2021

I swore off it because of the RVs and generators. I had a tough time at mud-fest as well. Got wet, froze, and experienced howling winds making sleep impossible. I have sworn off it before but always seem to change my mind and show up. Now, again, I'm having second thoughts and might show up. Keeping an eye on weather and available tix.

Fence sitting,

Alex

We should round up a Canadian contingent and head down together. My problem is that it's always during harvest, and I have a hard time prying myself off a combine...

Re: High Sierra 2021

Getting there is part of the fun, I left a week early last time and went via Idaho and the Alvord. Quite a few going from the lower mainland I think, and a some from Northern BC. Totally bummed not to be going this year, after last year being cancelled. It is busy, and can be noisy dusty and muddy but it really is a unique experience and there’s are so many cool planes and people.

Re: High Sierra 2021

I was told there were already over 2000 tickets sold. Is there that much space to accommodate that many people camping?

I've never been, and typically I avoid large events and crowds, but I think there are probably a bunch of cool people to meet. I think I'll hunt my way across Utah and Nevada.

I hope you buy a ticket and come Alex. We can fly down together! I'll camp by you! WEATHER permitting. NO MORE mud fest.

Cheers...Rob
