Re: High Sierra 2021

If any of you stragglers decide to go - I still got a ticket for sale.

And as for HSF - it may not the best place for peaceful sleep.. between the generators and the M80’s being set off. I’ve been 4times and always had a great time - including the big storm, my profile picture here to the right is the morning after the storm rolled through. My plane and my tent sitting in a few inches of water, I camped in one of the lower spots, lesson learned. And I still had a blast!

I'll be freezing at Copper Basin, since Whee is taking Cold Meadows.

I'm off the fence! I bought a ticket! Wife's going to a spa, so I figured why not.

If you want to come freeze, I plan to be at Cold Meadows next month.

We plan to scoot down south to Bishop and get some rock climbin' in. I'll be in a rented mule so's not excited about mixin' it up with all the Jerries. We'll get 'er on the ground and won't move till we leave for good. Have been out of the fly-in game for what seems like a bunch of years so I hope it goes well for all of us. Head on a swivel, y'all! Hope to see ya 'round.

Rented Mule? Where?

Hey, so I am new to the forum, but I spent 15 years climbing and skiing in the backcountry which resulted in the similar gap in my logbook. Finally, got back into the airplane late 2019. Flew 150 hours over 20 months. Recently settled on some training location close to the Sierra. I've been spending some time around crags and climbing areas, just getting back into shape. Feeling silly that I didn't bring my rope and rack. Conscious decision to focus on flight training, but I need to get back on the rock. Spent lots of time in the high alpine on rock and ice over the years. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Would love to meet some climbing pilots. Happy to provide a trusty belay.

I am currently near Red Rock (Vegas), but Northern Nevada is more my jam. Ruby's as an example. Probably going to head to Dead Cow, but I too am hesitant about the gong show. My first time, but the crowds don't really appeal to my backcountry sensibilities.

I will have my Sprinter with amenities. If you are interested, we could cook some pizza or something if we catch up. Talk Flying and Climbing. I really need to increase my climbing rate as of late.

Re: High Sierra 2021

Hey PowderHound,

Sorry I missed this before I left town. I'm not as good as checking in to the forums as I used to be - lot going on.

I am now back into 180 ownership, so I ended up not needing to fly the rented mule. I picked up a '55 180 from northern Minnesota about a week and a half ago, annualed her with Kyle Bushman over 4 days and flew her home to Boulder, CO. We got delayed leaving the rockies due to a huge low pressure that brought a bunch of early season snow, so didn't make it to Bishop. Se scooched down to Taos then way west which cost us two days. My girl (commercial multi) and I are both long time climbers (30 years or so) and predominately bouldering and sport climbing thought I've done it all.

We usually make a pilgrimage to Vegas to climb at Red Rock once a year. If you make it up to the PRB look me up.

We will be making our yearly pilgrimage to Hueco Tanks several times this year - and are looking at land to build an airstrip down there. That's the dream any way.

Send me a message and we'll connect up.

Lived and breath rock for many years. It's been a long time since I've touched real stone, but when just before COVID I started taking my girls to the gym and bought a new pair of shoes. Then...life, moving, and the biggest affront of all for climbing: moving to Minnesota.

Sorry to hear that. The float and ski flying is great though. Even though I live in one of the best climbing destinations in the world for year round rock and I'm 3 blocks from a fantastic climbing gym, I still built a climbing wall in my garage.... because.... people. ;-)

Let me know if you get out this way. I was in Grand Rapids last week - bought a 180. Super happy to be back in the saddle. Here she is on the playa at dead cow:

Re: High Sierra 2021

I want a slightly different type of race event: a STOL drag combined with an e bike race, and the time spent unfolding it/getting it out of the plane from it's secured flying position would be counted. It could be comic relief from the main events. :P

I like your idea! And each mile of the bike race you have to chug a beer so you’re 1 and done for the day after the race. None of this practice bullshit!
