Re: Hooper hot springs 2012

Nate, Alec and I on behalf of the CPA and CO RAC went down to Hooper this weekend and added a windsock on the east end of the airstrip. Hooper is in great condition and hard packed. Here's to hoping next weekend brings good weather!

The owners of Hooper are great people and are really looking forward to the fly-in. Hope to see some of you there!

The new windsock is about 75 feet south of the runway and 200 feet from the East end. With the preferred landing to the west and Takeoff to the east we feel this will be a great addition. (It was far to windy to hang the sock on as we had to let the concrete cure. It will be on prior to the fly-in.)

Re: Hooper hot springs 2012

Also, a few things to note:

1) Land to the west (rwy 25) and takeoff to the east (rwy 07) if winds permit.
2) Avoid low passes over the pool.
3) Parking located on west end and is limited.
4) Pilots should avoid blasting sand towards the pool on takeoff and run-up if possible.
5) Power lines are 50 ft from the west end of the rwy (marked). Lines are 2mi from the east end of the rwy (unmarked).
6) Mile Deep Grille (Deli) located on site. ($7-$10)
7) Hot tub is around 107-108°, pool is around 98-100°.
8 ) Reg Pool admission is $12 adults and $8 children.
9) RV, camping, and cabins available (approved areas only)(fee).

Re: Hooper hot springs 2012

The weather is looking pretty good for the weekend.

Friday March 9
Sunny skies. High 48F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday March 10
Mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the low 20s.

There's a good chance I'll be heading down Friday night to camp. If we can get a few guys to join, that would be great!

Wish I could have made it. My airplane is in the middle of its annual, and I'm in the waning edge of the longest running, worst cold I've ever had. But the current meds are great--1 teaspoonful of the cough syrup has the same effect as a shot of Wild Turkey! :) (Wild Turkey tastes better)

A fun time was had by all. Perfect weather, 20 planes, hot springs, great food, and great folks. It would be fun to do again in the fall!
