Re: How's your weather?

35 degrees and half an inch of rain today in DFW.
Saturday it was 80 at the ranch.

Central IDaho is getting hammered this year. They closed hiway 55 to McCall for the second time ever I hear.

We're under a flood watch...

Been a really wet winter down here. Seems like when it is sunny, it's during the week and not on the weekends, haha.

If this is only the second (??), I was there for the first closing...January 2nd, 1996...I think. I was stuck in Boise after attending a wedding, all my gear (and passport) was in McCall, and I had a flight out of the country in four days, and wouldn't be back for eight months. Mud slides had the road closed in a dozen places between Horseshoe Bend and Cascade.

I don't remember my exact route back to McCall, but I remember it involving chains on all four tires of my Toyota 4x4, about 22 hours, and a lot of luck.

Weather in Montana is sweet...cold and snow flurries...nothing to worry about.

40°F and moist. Pretty much par for the course on the wet side of the mountains here in the lowland valleys of northern Oregon. I'm always hoping for another snowpocalypse to torture the Portlandians though.

Like CG said it’s been snowy, cold and windy. Still, it didn’t stop us from sleeping in the camper and spending a epic day skiing in -1deg weather. Riding the lift was a frigid and windy experience but I didn’t have any luck convincing my ski partner to take a break in the lodge.

My understanding is that this is the second time it was closed due to blowing/drifting snow.
Yes it’s been closed several times due to slides.

Re: How's your weather?

16 degrees and wind out of the south east at 18 mph, but I managed to get the mini excavator out and off it's trailer in the hangar after moving a bunch of other stuff. TIGHT, no place for the stuff I had to move, and limited clearances all around. But nothing got scratched or dented, I used it to rake down the 5 and 6' tall banks on my access roads so the tractor's blower could then blow it (hopefully) away. If needed again, the mini will be much more accessible, I'm through screwing around. All this and then a quick 12 K vertical in 10" of fresh powder at my nearby ski area. First I cuss the white stuff, but once up at the area I love it =D>

How's your weather?

Very windy and gusty with a 80-90 degree crosswind.

Two casualties in Livermore, CA yesterday. Both have damaged main gear from off runway excursions.

1979 C172N - left main gear collapse

1959 182C - both main gear moved aft with rivets pushed out and wrinkled skin...doors won’t latch anymore either.

Re: How's your weather?

Good times here! 30" of snow in 48 hours and single-digit temps.

That thing in the picture is a picnic table and bench that was clear three days ago.
Image

Spent ten hours plowing the driveway, though it is a mile long, and some of the switchbacks slide onto the lower one with this much snow.
Image

This much snow is a bit of work, but it sure beats no snow and lots of people. :D

Re: How's your weather?

Just North of Hammer at 32S. Runway was finally able to be plowed, once the storm let up. Taxiway, ramps have basically been shutdown also, even vehicles getting stuck.
Tired of shoveling! On the bright side, only two months of winter left! :D

Let's see some snow Pics!

Piper Painter would meet his match with the Mooney here!

Re: How's your weather?

Hey richpiney,
Spent two hours clearing the hangar apron yesterday, and I'd guess it has another foot on it today. That's after shoveling five inches of hard crust off of it last week. Anyone who hasn't kept on top of it will be needing mechanical assistance, or they're grounded till spring.

Taken this morning before plowing...that thing in the middle of the photo is a 7' tall barrel sauna.

Re: How's your weather?

Plenty of that white crap here also. Seems to never stop. I'm out blowing and moving snow, on average, every 4 days. -17 when I looked at the thermometer a little bit ago. Only 6 more months of winter..that what it feels like!!

Here in Central Oregon we woke up to about 20” two mornings ago. We’re sitting at about 30” this morning.

Re: How's your weather?

Wind, LOTS of wind, and snow also. My grid tie wind turbine set another new all time record in power produced in one continuous blow, cumulative KWH over several days that is, not peak gust, as good a way as any to ascertain it's been windy.

The tractor is chained up on all four tires now, thanks to the underlying ice. The tractor blower will soon start not clearing the downwind bank, which is reaching 8' high, and then it'll just fall back in the drive. No ski flying for a couple weeks now, but the snowboarding has been epic, it sure is nice I have something to do no matter what the weather does. =D> A little fat ebike ride before heading up to the area starts most of my days. Not much crane work in these winds either.

That picture should be a good example of why a guy should never install a sliding hangar door on a hangar if he/she lives in snow country!! Even my bifold needs some minor digging out before opening.

Believe it or not, my slider rails don't get snowed in...least not yet.

I'm thinking of painting the lower three feet of the hangar doors black to encourage melt-back anytime the sun is out.
