Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm thankful for aviation also. It's a great hobby, also a lifestyle thing (just about all my friends are pilots), plus it keeps me too broke to get into any trouble. Who could ask for more?

Hey Cory. I drove past you while you were on the ramp in Ogden in the Wilga. I see you found my yellow "wind sock" on the T post!

Re: I'm Thankful for Aviation

You don't see too many Wilgas around. I've never seen one fly but I'll bet it's pretty impressive. There's one parked on the ramp at KBVS Skagit Regional Airport in Burlington WA. The tag on it says the Port of Skagit is threatening to auction it off for non-payment of tiedown fees. That note's been on it (and another similar note on a Twin Bonanza parked next to it) for a long time, don't know if it's an empty threat or just what. But maybe it could be had cheap., might be worth looking into if anyone's interested in a project.

SkySteve, next time say hello brother!

The Wilga is fun! It's a monster for sure.

I think that might be the one my buddy George just picked up for parts, I'll ask him.

CaptMike and I had a quaint Thanksgiving day dinner at Ala Wai Harbor. He was on his way to Japan as First Officer on a 767,

Truly an amazing guy who deserves the good fortunes. He had a BCP hat on! First one in Honolulu that I saw.

I felt honored to have such gifted friends. Fly safe Mike.

Re: I'm Thankful for Aviation

It's green with an iron cross or swastika on it. Don't understand the significance of that on a Polish airplane but whatever.

Yeah, it's the one we are going to salvage parts from. The paint perplexes me as well... Some damn nazi lover owned it maybe?

Re: I'm Thankful for Aviation

It'll be good to see them gone from the ramp-- a real shame seeing them rot away. Now if someone will just take away the turbine CompAir that's been sitting there at BVS for about two years after a prop strike....
I don't know who they were purchased from or the circumstances, but both those airplanes were owned or at least operated by the same person. He was involved in a hangar deal here at my airport which turned out, let's just say, financially unsatisfactory for the people who bought hangars from him. Heard about some of his other deals which turned out the same way. I haven't seen him in years, I think he got out of aviation, and if so, I doubt anyone still in it will miss him.

Were they auctioned off or otherwise sold by the Port of Skagit, or by the aircraft's owner(s)?

Flew over to Skagit for lunch the other day, I see the crime scene tape is gone from around the two airplanes and that the warning tags from the Port are gone. Planes are still there though. I noticed a lead counterbalance from the RH aileron is laying on the ground beneath the Wilga-- it rotted right off at the root.

Re: I'm Thankful for Aviation

It always hurts to see once proud airplane rotting on the ramp. I feel the same way about unused boats growing beards of marine growth because they never leave their slips. It amazes me how many expensive toys wind up being completely ignored. My plane wasn't as costly as many hangar queens are, but I still pamper it like a new born child. Maybe I should start a business where I offer to keep neglected airplanes and boats healthy by using them regularly. I would even write status reports for the owners as part of my service...

Re: I'm Thankful for Aviation

They were auctioned off.
The rods holding the ailerons have broke, so I imagine that they were whipping back and forth in the wind and tore it off??
We'll see what's what when we get it home.
