Re: Im inSeattle and want to go flying

It was a pleasure to meet Larry. We had a nice evening flight from the Tacoma Narrows Airport, and then out to some of the fun local grass strips. Nice warm weather, and door-off flying. Tough to beat.

The kicker was that I also took his nephew (age 16). I asked him how many times he had been in a small plane, answer is three times, for about five hours total. I go on to explain what the controls do, and offer the stick to him. He proceeds to fly perfectly coordinated, nailed his altitude, knew exactly where he was (I have been flying here for 8 years, and it is still easy to screw up which island you are near, and he has only been in the area for a day), and all of this from the rear seat in a tandem plane (with no rear instruments), does this for 30 minutes, then enters the pattern on a perfect 45 entry, perfect downwind, then base, and then I take over due to crosswinds. We land and Larry generously offers to buy dinner at the Hub Restaurant at the Narrows. Over dinner, the truth comes out... 2,000+ hours of desktop simulator. Barefoot Bandit in training????? Thankfully not, just a very bright young man, with a passion for aviation.

If any local pilots have a little time, you should think about taking a fellow aviator from Costa Rica for a ride. Great guy, loves aviation, and would enjoy seeing the sights.

2,000+ hours of desktop simulator.

Good deal---maybe you can ride in Costa Rica someday. I've tried simulator and radio control just a very little and decided flying a real plane is much easier.

Agreed Marty. Everytime I try flying my RC it ends up needing repairs, and its supposedly super easy to fly. Haha.

Lots of fun Eduardo, the best was getting some dual in a Piper Cub :)
It was windy and very challenging
Aviation community its great, way better than any of the other communities of activities I have been involved like motorcycles, surfing etc.

Are you going to the airshow in Costa Rica September 20 and 21st?

If yes come some days early and we do some backcountry flying.

Re: Im inSeattle and want to go flying

Probably too late now, but a flit around the area with Seattle Seaplanes in their 172 would be a fun flight and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I just got my SES with them this last Monday, July 14th. I haven't been much on the Internet the whole vacation, so I just saw this thread.

Re: Im inSeattle and want to go flying

That sounds awesome Larry! I love Seattle and flying there.

I was told the Costa Rica Show was earlier in the month, so I thought I would not be able to make it, but if it's the 20th and 21st, I should be able to be there. That would be the great! I was bummed out that I was going to missed it.
