Yeah I saw that on Amazon too. I was hoping to add a rebate on top of those prices.

No need to call for the Enterprise plan.
Enterprise.Delorme.com has everything you need.

I didn't realize it was on the line, nice!
I have the Delorme 2 plan. I've gone over in some busy flying months, but the overages aren't expensive.

Ok. So I've been looking at the consumer pricing vs the enterprise. One is message based, the other is data based. So what's the advantage...or why did you choose the enterprise plan? I'm just trying to figure out which would be better to go for me. What sold you on it?

The ability to drop waypoints at whatever frequency I want (I chose 2 min) vs the 15 min (or something like that) intervals on the consumer plans.

Yep, same for me. It's 10 minutes on the consumer plans unless you spring for the $100/month plan. I can go a long ways in 10 minutes so I prefer to have the better precision of two minute intervals. I strategically chose the enterprise 2 plan, knowing I would exceed my limit in the summer and pay the base price in the winter. At the time, they charged a fee if you switched plans so paying a little overage during a few months was the better option. I don't know if that is still the case.

It is. They allow you to go up for free but charge if you go to a cheaper plan.
That's what I'm trying to weigh is usage. My spot does every 10 minutes. 2 is definitely better.
Thanks. I'll keep looking at it.
I'm still looking for info on that rebate. It looks like they have done it in years past but I've. It been able to see any current promotion. Maybe I'll email them.

If it's not plugged in, how does the 2 minute tracking affect battery life?
Also, are the units only rechargeable or can you use lithium ion batteries as a backup?

I charge mine VERY infrequently. Most of my flights are about 1.5, but some are on the order of 5, and some weekends I'll fly nearly 20 hours with something greater than 50% battery life remaining.
I'm not sure if there's a replacement battery, mine has a ton of life so it's a non event for me. I do not charge mine in flight.

Boo! Bummer. It looks like they have done one down here in the past. Maybe they still will. Thanks for the info though.

In addition to less than 10 minute reporting the main benefit for me of the enterprise plan is when the unit senses ships power it will automatically power up and go into tracking mode. When I shut the master off if automatically stops tracking and shuts down. No inputs from me ever required. I had a mechanic install a cig lighter plug under the panel on copilots side for this reason.

So that feature is only available on the enterprise plan huh? I liked that as an option.
Looking at the estimated bytes per function, it seems like it wouldn't take much flying to go through 1500 or 3000 bytes. Which plan are you using and how much flying do you figure you do a month?

I have the same thoughts Cory. @13 bytes per track, it's not much flying and your at 1500 bytes.

15 bytes each to open and close a new track, 13 bytes per intermediate track point. I think I budgeted for 10hrs a month on the Delorme 2 plan. I've gone over about 4 or 5 times, but the overages aren't that expensive to justify paying more for lighter flying months.

Each tracking point is 13 bytes according to my bill. I usually get around 125 hours a year, attached is my monthly flying since Jan 2014. Some months I go over, usually the summer months. I have the Enterprise 2 plan and set it two 2 minute tracking points when in the mountains. On long distance straight line flights I'll dial it back to 5 or 10 minute points.

Thanks for the info Cam. So if I'm doing my math right, an hour of flying would be 30 bytes to open/close a new track + 15 bytes for a takeoff message if using a predefined message (80 bytes if it's a free text) + the same to send an on the ground text + 390 bytes per hour if using the 2 minute tracking (30 tracks per hour @ 13 bytes per track) = 435/580 bytes per hour. I guess if you don't send the messages that will help stretch it. Man my head hurts! I feel like I'm studying cell phone plans from the early 90s again![emoji1]
Thanks for all the info and feedback! I appreciate it!

Thanks BM. That's a good point about being able to dial the tracking rate back if needed for a specific flight.

Can you send a message from one inreach to another? Say I get caught on one side of a pass and my buddy is on the other, no cell service. Is there a way to contact each other if we both have an inreach?
