Yes, you can do this.

Yes. You can send msgs to mobile numbers, email address or another InReach device (or all at the same time..think a group text) Your msg is going to a satellite, then on to its destination.....
I've used it extensively in the field on the Enterprise plans and HIGHLY recommend it.

Good question. That's a good feature to know about.

Rod, from what I see on the Canadian website, there is no enterprise plan. Have you found different or which plan do you plan on using?

There is a 15% discount on all plans through COPA... I was looking at the $34 /month package.

Good to know. That one would almost be enough for my flying. Based on my yearly average I'd be about 20 hrs worth of flying short though. Need to do more research. So far my spot hasn't let me down and is less then half the price...

The title of this thread ...... hmmm
A PLB is just that - a BEACON (like your ELT) whereas an InReach is more of a communications device.
A PLB has an initial cost but no on-going subscription charges.
A SPOT is kind of a half-assed compromise between a PLB and an InReach. It also is not very reliable at high latitudes.
I think we should, in the interest of safety, assume that our ELT will be damaged in a crash of fail to activate for one reason or another. Statistics show that the likelihood of that is actually quite high. So we need a back-up. I choose a PLB in my pocket as primary. Then I figure I need a back-up to the back-up, and an InReach makes a good "beacon" as well as a fun communications device. The Iridium sat-phone is carried because it's the only way I have to close a flight plan from the bush or to hear my wife's voice and convince her that I'm okay. And, when all else fails, I can call up that Japan Airlines 747 overhead after I escape from the burned-out wreckage with my handheld VHF.
Having back-ups to the back-ups is the rule with me. Hence the axe AND the saw.
I also wear a belt AND suspenders!
I know it probably sounds like over-kill, and for most pilots it would be, but I fly in some of the most-remote country in Canada, without another friendly bush-plane for 300-miles, and often not another human being within a hundred miles.

Just takes me to a sign in page.
Just go to their home page. Then look in the column on the left. The third option is enterprise. Click on it and it brings up the enterprise solutions page. Mid page on the right you'll see three links in a blue box. The top link is "Download the Enterprise Sell Sheet". Click it and it will open a PDF with the info on the Enterprise plans.

Hey Rod,
Given this read has become mostly about the Delorme Inreach, it might be a good idea to modify the thread's title to something like "Delorme Inreach Questions and Plans" or something like that. It might help someone in the future who is looking for info on Delorme.

For the Canadians on here, it's located under the working alone section. Here's a link for the enterprise on Canada.

I came across a deal on an Explorer on ebay yesterday and ordered it. I'm excited.
Also, a friend that has one sent me an email yesterday about a promo they are doing. If you buy from them, you get $50 off plus a $50 credit, and the friend referring you also gets a $50 credit. Offer ends 12/09/16 I think.

As a side note, when I emailed Spot to cancel, they offered me a $60 loyalty reward if I'd change my mind. Thought I'd pass it along for any spot users out there.

Grasstrippilot,
What InReach plan did you choose? Sounds like you ran the numbers pretty thoroughly and am interested in what you decided. I purchsed the inReach Explorere but have not activated it yet. Is it fairly straightforward to link it to your smart phone?
I could not find any details on the Enterprise plans. The link mentioned here did not give me the information.

I ended up on the Enterprise plan here in Canada, and applied the COPA discount.
