Just purchased C185 with my son (500 hr. PP, no TW Time), me (9k ATP, 100-150 hr TW 20 yrs ago). Five companies, one wouldn't take me because of age (76)- USAIG, one wouldn't take him because of experience. The others were all within 800.00 of each other and expensive. I took the company that insures my other aircraft even though it cost more. As we age I think experience with one company helps. They required 5 hrs of TW dual for both of us. My opinion is that no one should be flying a C185 with 5 hrs of dual-he got 20 and I got about 10 from experienced instructors (and I'm still a long way from comfortable).
