ISO Ski dollies

I have Federal 2000 skis and am in search of a set of dollies. Closer to MN would be great.
If anyone has drawings to make a set, that would be great also!
Thanks!

Re: ISO Ski dollies

Not sure if this helps or not, I have a set that fits 1500's, they aren't for sale and I don't have any drawings. I would be happy to send some photos and measurements if that helps though.

I've seen a set of these modified into skis dollies, pick them up at the local automart or other such outfit.

Re: ISO Ski dollies

pburns, Thanks, but I was loaned a set for 1500's and they would need a bit of modification to work. I did make drawings of them though. I'd just have to modify them a bit. The main reason they didn't work was the size of the shaft going through the ski. Being smaller ( I could have used a bushing) but they were also too narrow.

Maplelift,
Good idea! I have a set of those I used to move the plane around. Hadn't thought of using them to get it into the hangar. Unfortunately I have a bit of an upgrade (well over a foot) going into my hangar, plus the hangar floor is a couple inches above the ground (dirt). I suppose it might roll on the frozen ground. I'll give them a try!

You could try "upsizing" the wheels maybe that would help a bit.

Re: ISO Ski dollies

Asking a question that I actually know something about is another good way of bringing out the lurkers like me.
The following pictures are of a set of dollies that I made for my Federal 2000A skis on my PA-16 Clipper. There is nothing special about the materials I used, it was just what I had on hand at the time. I didn't make any drawings as I went, otherwise I would gladly share them.

Before I use the dollies, I hook a string from the back of the ski to the cable mount. This keeps the heel of the ski off the ground when it is lifted by the dolly.

Notice that the rubber bumper that I put on the handle does absolutely nothing. It seemed like a good idea at the time but it turns out that the handle rests on the ski long before the bumper hits.

Re: ISO Ski dollies

Harold K,

Welcome aboard....and Thank you sir!!! Those are great pictures and measurements. I was in the hangar today and another guy had sent a picture of a similar design. but without measurements.

I can easily build a set like yours. I just happen to have a piece of steel rod, but ironically it is 1" and the hole in my skis measured the same as yours, (0.98x) Guess I'll need to put it in a lathe and turn it down a few thousandths.

Thanks again,
Keith
