Wish I could come--the videos are great! I went ahead and submitted my release form, but that's the weekend my Sis and I will be scattering Ma's ashes (not from the airplane). But it looks so enticing that I might pop over there on another weekend, so I thought it best to get the release in.

Are the cabins fully furnished, or do I need to bring a sleeping bag?

HC: I'm looking forward to seeing you and Gary again!

Soy: Yes, please bring a sleeping bag. The cabins are fully furnished (microwave, mini-fridge, bed, chairs, most have a sink, ect.), everything except blankets.

Okay, glad I asked. I would have showed up expecting the 3-star treatment. I'll bring a pillow for the boy, too.

Looking forward to seeing you Soy. Depending on smoke, TFR's, etc. we may go by La Veta Pass with a fuel stop at Pueblo.

Same to you MM. Need a trip to the mountains to get rid of some of the High Plain Blues (wind and crappy wx) to remember why I have an airplane!

Me too, hicountry. We'll be crossing at Mosca Pass which is due north of LaVeta and puts you due east of Hooper and LaGarita. Very easy pass too. Unless you just want more and more of the high plains experience, you could take the "sneak" route through the foothills just west of all the class bravo, charlie and delta by cutting over near lmo/bdu early. Have a look at this, a very pleasant flight... Silver West (C08) is just North of the pass and has 24 hours self serve fuel and just 20c/gal more than Pueblo. Have a look at this:

Thanks for the info. Crossed that way back in '04 when I went to Phoenix with a fuel stop at Alamosa. If the WX is good, no smoke, no TFRs we may fly over the Royal Gorge just to look at the damage. May also fly over Victor CO as I own property there.

If winds and performance permit, I have had good luck taking Hayden Pass over the Sangre's and into the valley. A little more direct from the Springs area.

If you pass through Hayden from about 10 am to late afternoon, keep your eyes peeled! One of the hottest new hang glider/paraglider launch areas is on the SLV side of the pass. There were seven gliders in the air last saturday.

That's great news Skalywag, I look forward to meeting you and your Dad.

Well behaved dogs are welcomed, but please put a leash in the plane in case the ranch manager makes a request.

Went out this afternoon and cleaned up the prairie dog situation at Morning Shadows. 'dogs had built some mounds mid strip. Strip is in great shape with the south half rolled this past spring. From the cottonwood trees south, very smooth. North of that, a little rough but useable. Just thought I would run that past you guys in case you are looking for a cool fly-out this weekend.

Re: La Garita Creek Ranch, CO fly-in - June 21-23

Thanks Tom for the update on the nearby Morning shadows airstrip. Along with Hooper Pool airstrip, this should make for some fun Saturday fly-outs. I've also got a quick update.
I spoke to the ranch manager today. Everything is ready for the Fly-in! :D Additional parking space has been created for aircraft with low clearance. Upon landing, head towards the main lodge and follow the marshaller for parking.

Due to statewide issues with wildfires, the county has put a fire ban in place. While the outside fire pits are off the table... not all is lost. We will be having a evening fire at the main lodge.

To answer a few of the questions that have come up over the last few days... All cabins are fully equipped & furnished with beds, bathrooms, towels, heat, mini-fridge, and microwave. The beds have have pillows and clean linen cover. Bring your own sleeping bag or blanket of choice. Depending upon what cabin your rented, some have fireplaces and wood stoves. Pictures of the cabin interiors have been posted on www.flycolorado.org

Ohh, dogs are ok too. There will probably be a few here.

For those that arrive on Friday we will have a van available to shuttle people over for dinner at the trading post. Remember... this is a cash only area. No ATM avail. We welcome any last minute arrivals, but unless you registered for the BBQ dinner on Saturday night (www.flycolorado.org), we can't guarantee a plate.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

May be a dumbs question but In both videos it appeared that straight in approaches were used. Does the terrain dictate a specific pattern?

Not a dumb question at all Arne. Yes both approaches are straight-in and can be used. For the pattern, it's best to use a extended upwind for a left hand pattern (dictated by terrain). A climb out slightly to the right south of the road helps with the neighbors horses to the east. ;)

Thanks Matt. I imagine there will be someone on the ground with a radio monitoring incoming traffic and will be able to give wind reports. I e pe t to arrive around 0800 on Friday.

You may be the first to arrive honestly. Later Friday and throughout Saturday we will have a radio on the ground. Your arrival at 8am should be ideal. ;)
