La Garita Creek Ranch, CO Spring Fly-in - June 5th - 7th

Please plan on joining us for the Spring 2015 La Garita Creek Ranch Fly-in June 5th-7th (Friday afternoon through Sunday morning).

This family friendly fly-in will include fly-outs to many wonderful Southern Colorado locations including Hooper/Sand Dunes Pool, Morning Shadows, Quarter Circle Circle, Castle Lakes, Creede, Saguache, and more. A cook will be present throughout the entire weekend to provide breakfast, lunch and the chuck wagon dinner (wonderful food at reasonable prices!). Kids, pets, and anyone with a love for aviation is welcome!

Please visit www.FlyColorado.org for the registration, waiver, airstrip information and cabin rentals/tent camping.

***Important: if you are planning on attending, please take a minute to fill out both the online registration and e-wavier.***

This has been a premier backcountry fly-in here in Colorado for the last 3 years, and the ranch owner and manager have been gracious enough to host it again this year. Please plan on attending to not only show your support for keeping the La Garita Creek Ranch open and available to pilots year round, but to also enjoy the best of what Colorado has to offer.

We hope to see you there! For questions or comments, please email [email protected].

Re: La Garita Creek Ranch, CO Spring Fly-in - June 5th - 7th

FYI Mike Spearman was able to get 100LL at the Leach Airport (1V8) this past winter. Not listed on any websites or publications yet.
As for Del Norte (KRCV), the tank was delivered yesterday. I am being told that we will be able to dispense fuel in a month. Hopefully in time for the fly in. Great to have fuel very close!!
Should be another awesome event!

I'm looking forward to this one too. Thanks to those that put in all the hard work in making fuel available in the valley.
See you guys there.

Re: La Garita Creek Ranch, CO Spring Fly-in - June 5th - 7th

Good news. After working with the ranch manager and the FAA (mostly one year of waiting), La Garita Creek Ranch is officially an FAA registered airport! The new identifier is 5CO6. This identifier was previously used for the late Norm Meyer's Airstrip in Conifer, CO, so please make sure you have the latest Nav Database upload in your GPS if using the direct-to function, otherwise you'll take a long detour in the mountains :)

http://www.airnav.com/airport/5CO6

As Tom mentioned, there will be plenty of fuel options for the fly-in. Leach Airport (1V8) just reopened it's doors with a brand new self serve fuel system. It is conveniently located in between La Garita and Hooper Pool. Price is currently $4.95 which is one of the lowest in San Luis Valley. Also, Del Norte is about to install a new fuel system at KRCV (a few miles South of La Garita) which should be ready in time.

We look forward to seeing everyone there. La Garita is a great place to base for those looking to experience Colorado mountain flying at its best. Nearby public and private airstrip destinations are available for all types of skill levels.

An update on the fuel situation: Del Norte will not be selling fuel. System in place, not certified yet.
Will be heavily into getting the bees out of TX and up here. I may not attend this year.

Tom, hope you can swing by just long enough to say hi.

Extended forecast promises something that we have been missing around here for a month... the sun! Hope it's right and the weather is excellent.

Lots of folks signed up, it's going to be a good one!

I'm looking forward to it. I have to come in either late on Friday or wait until Saturday--probably the latter. Might hang out an extra day if that's allowed.

Looks like Friday eve will be the only time I will be able to stop by this year. Sure will miss it though.
Had an awesome spring in West Texas with the bees, but now running late getting everything back up here and in place.

For those attending the La Garita / Hooper Fly-In this upcoming weekend, be sure to check out Hooper's new soaking pools and facilities...

-Typical Colorado spring weather is expected this weekend, so plan for morning flights if possible.
-If you need a ride from Del Norte or Leach Airport call Mike @ seven-one-nine-580-2486.
-Cabins appear to be fully booked, but contact Mike to check on availability.
-Leach Airport has runway lights and 100LL fuel 24/7 self-serve fuel pump. http://www.airnav.com/airport/1V8

If you haven't signed up already, please take a moment to fill out the fly-in registration using the link below so we can make sure we have enough food on hand for the chuckwagon dinner on Sat nite. Breakfast will also be available on Sat/Sun morn.

Re: La Garita Creek Ranch, CO Spring Fly-in - June 5th - 7th

The forecast looks nice. It's nice to finally dry out from all this recent rain. Can't wait to get out and do some flying.

I hope to make it in either late Fri evening or early Sat morning depending on the weather and my schedule.

I can't wait to see the new facilities at the Sand Dunes Pool, looks amazing! Already craving the chuck wagon meals too (mental note: remember to get cash).

See everyone soon,
Matt

Your going to love the new trails at Penitente. Volunteers of Colorado have been doing some really cool stuff around here for mountain bike riding. Google "12 hours of Penitente" and check out the event planned for October. Cool stuff.
My last load of bees was scheduled for Saturday, now pushed back to Sunday. I'm in for the Saturday flying!

Lopez fam had to cancel last minute. Yesterday the Doc cut just shy of 12 lbs of spleen and tumor out of Dexter, my Skywagon lab. I'm picking him up tomorrow morning. Depending on how he is feeling, I may come down tomorrow for lunch at the pool.
