Part of the Gleason Flat landing was interesting. No extra room right or left, head set cord hooked on yoke. Oh sh$!

I was talkin with a fella last summer down at Coolidge, that apparently had spent sometime in AK . We were talkin about landing on gov't property. He said he has gotten away with saying a plane was mechanized travel and not motorized????????????????

landed on a dry lakebed out by Ocotillo last year... saw a green and white pickup with flashing lights speeding in my direction about a mile away.... Took off... He stopped... end of story...no explanation needed...

Around these parts it is customary for the first plane in to clear the cactus for the others. Clearly O Rob caught on and was just following suit for any followers

Ice, Ocotillo as in near Ocotillo wells? seems I saw that same truck in the 180 sunday... I just assumed I needed to get out of the way, so I left the area...

O Rob does a great job and really seems to catch on to local traditions rather quickly.

I wonder if you registered your floats as a boat would you be able to use lakes that allowed boats but not floatplanes."As you can see officer this is an EDO pontoon boat with the proper registration.Watch I can even tow a waterskier."

Depends on the land. The legislation that created a lot of wilderness areas specifically carved out language allowing for airplane landings. Not helicopters but airplanes.

But they aren't allowed absolutely everywhere not even here.

yes , ocotillo wells.... the actual lake bed is half hill dry lake...pickup was either border patrol or ranger.... more likely ranger in that area....don't know why a plane on a dry lakebed would be a problem.. the whole lake had dirt bike and four wheeler tracks all over it...and yes it's better to avoid them at all costs... most of them know nothing about airplanes or the regs for that matter... they just assume they have to take some sort of action and depending on the type of officer you run into you could be in for a world of shit....i do a thorough area check before I land anywhere out there... I won't land if I see any law enforcement vehicles within a couple miles of the strip or lake bed I'm landing on...
