I have a friend looking at having Lawson Aviation in Michigan do a rebuild on a O470. Anyone here have any dealings with them or info about the shop? Any info to help make the decision would be helpful. Thanks

I've had an O-470-K up with them being -50'd since Memorial Day; supposed to be coming back this week. So far, they have been affable and available. The engines are test run and prices are reasonable, too. They even found me a C58 prop and sold my C203 for me. Matt and Dustin Lawson were recommended by Steve Knopp, in a conversation I had with him earlier in the year. The proof will be in the pudding, though.

Matt is a really great guy. He rebuilt an IO-360 for me. Really nice to talk to on the phone and is a real honest guy.
I'd send another motor to him.

Bought a rebuilt O-470R from them a few years ago. Matt and Dustin were a pleasure to deal with and the engine runs strong and incredibly well! I have a lot of confidence in it.

Matt rebuilt the IO-360 I have in my 170B as well ...... Fantastic job! I would recommend them to anyone.

I will have you know - after reading this I went directly to google to prove you wrong. The first link was to the Wikipedia page which says:

After paving through all the linked pages, I see that you are correct.

I learned something new today and will no longer call the "whirly twirly proppy go" on the front of my plane a "motor" for short.

I'm guilty of using "motor" frequently where "engine" is more appropriate. Sometimes it's just fun to say.

I had the thought "motor or engine" when I posted. I knew one was right, but was too lazy to look it up. Thanks for the reminder.

Full disclosure: I went through the mental image of a fictitious mechanical alarm type nerd alerter of 20 years ago and the new fictitious meter that is an app on my phone.. It gives a fictitious notification to the home screen. I shouldn't post before getting out of bed in the morning.

For those of us particularly attuned to minutiae, like the difference between a motor and an engine...try getting people, when talking about boats, to call them outboard engines. For some reason, everybody wants to call them outboard motors. It makes me twitch a bit, but I let it pass...

This thread completely through me off. I had no idea what you where talking about. I was thinking you must of meant having a starter motor rebuilt. Or maybe wanting to convert your plane to an electric motor. So confusing. Not sure what you could of been thinking man. Can't believe you'd be so ignorant as to call your motor an engine.
Just want to make sure that you know, that I know, more than you.

I went ahead and sent Ford Motor Company an email to make sure they realize this as well. That's pretty confusing also. You might think they were making electric cars.
