Re: Lawson Aviation Motor Rebuild

I had Matt/Dustin build a Pponk for me from a 520 D probly about 4 years ago. Engine has been trouble free, I have around 550 hrs on it now. I would not figure them for the R and R, but I did get aquainted with a guy in the area, Kevin Anderson that I would highly recommend for that part of it. Kevin would also be great for any other Cessna maintenance type issues. PM me for any further inquiries into this subject.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Re: Lawson Aviation Motor Rebuild

I posted back in 2015 that Lawson was doing my P-Ponk; 300+ hours, no issues, good compressions & borescope. Matt even sold my existing prop, found me a pristine C58 and spinner for a good price and submitted the 337 for field approval to their FSDO after my FSDO stalled out. Nothing but good to say about them.

Thanks for the feedback. Had a nice conversation with Dustin and he sounded like he had plenty of experience with them. If I go that route, good chance Ill be using them.

Re: Lawson Aviation Motor Rebuild

Lawson Aviation in the process of an overhaul and upgrade to 520 for me.

I ran an O-470 that they overhauled for seven years and over 800 hours. It ran strong and was confidence inspiring the entire time. Strong compressions and good borescope every inspection. Loaded it up with 12 quarts and it stayed there every time.

I’m sure I would have made TBO if an impulse coupling didn’t come apart and fill it up with chips.

Matt and Dustin are fantastic to deal with. They answer the phone and present options to help you find the best overall solution for your needs.

They have all of my old parts. Everything looked really good inside they said.

It will be late October or Early November by the time it ships back to me.

That will give me time to direct my attention at other things FWF.

I decided to spring for a freshly overhauled MT two blade to spin with it. Was looking at props that were sixes or sevens out of ten, and thought that it wasn't such a great idea to swing a 6/10 prop with a 10/10 engine...

Re: Lawson Aviation Motor Rebuild

I recently took delivery of my O-470-50 from Lawson Aviation. It was converted from a mid-time "R". It arrived looking fantastic after some test cell time.

It was ahead of schedule and under budget. They were available on telephone and by email during the entire process.

I likely won't run it until late December, but if it runs as good as my last Lawson engine, I will be very pleased.

If you are in need of engine work, I highly recommend talking with Lawson.

Re: Lawson Aviation Motor Rebuild

Definitely looks good and like you put new Superior cylinders on like I had Central Cylinder do for me. I dealt with the governor myself and sent it up to Maxwell in Minneapolis-----then installed it here.

Re: Lawson Aviation Motor Rebuild

Thanks for helping spend my money....dropped my engine off with Dustin at Lawson Aviation last night. I definitely feel like it’s in good hands!

scolopax he showed me a few pictures from the mag and metal on your last engine, that thing was ugly! Sorry to see it happened but I’m looking forward to hear how your new one runs!
