Looking for rudder pedal extensions (SairCorp sux)

After getting the run-around for 3 months from SAirCorp (Flight Boss) on their out of stock rudder pedal extensions, I'm looking for another source. Google hasn't come up with anything and I'm not interested in a strip of wood screwed into the bottom of the pedals. I'm looking for a semi permanent solution that extends the rudder and the brake movement that's legal. This is for a 1955 C180.

Also, I was going to send in my yokes for refurb to SAirCorp, but after this fiasco I'm looking for an alternative for that service too.

Thanks!

What do you need done to your yokes? I brought mine in and got them sandblasted then powder coated. I really like the finish on them.
Sorry, can't help with the rudder pedal extensions.

You might try replacing the stock pedals with these later model FAA/PMA ones: http://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com/Produc ... goryID=86&

Some IA's consider this a logbook entry item.

I've never heard that Larry at SairCorp is fast, but I've never heard of anyone not getting their product. I believe he builds to order much of the time, and doesn't stock all his products. I don't know how your communication has transpired, but I strongly recommend that you pick up the phone and call him. Please let us know how it turns out. If you're not satisfied, I may have to check on him myself. I've met Larry once, and seen many testimonials about his product. I believe he's just a one man shop, so please don't imagine a faceless factory in the east.

I don't know of any other source, so I hope this works out for you.

This style pedal, which is virtually identical to what's installed in new Cessnas, does extend the pedals a bit, compared to the 50s style pedals. And, the geometry is a LOT better. I put a similar set in my 170 (logbook entry) and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Re: Looking for rudder pedal extensions (SairCorp sux)

Thanks for the replies.

I looked at that new replacement rudder pedal and the STC does not cover 1955 models. I assume that they changed the design and it's not compatible. Has anyone put these on a 1955?

I've called Saircorp four times now. They were supposed to call back on Monday and haven't. There are so many backorders, that they ran one batch through and it wasn't enough to get to my order which I placed first of July. If he can't make the product, then he shouldn't advertise it.

The 180 was for my wife and she missed an entire flying season over this. At this point I'm thinking of selling the 180 and getting a Citabria just because of f'n rudder pedals. Unbelievably frustrating.

I put them in my 52 170B. They fit fine, with no mods, and the IA signed it off as a minor. They don't gain you a lot of extension, but it helps. The ones I bought came from Yingling, when they were the Cessna parts distributor so they were genuine Cessna parts....and hard plastic.

Re: the yokes, instead of refurbing mine, I bought leather covers from Warren Gregoire, http://www.warrengregoire.com/aviation- ... covers.htm. They look nice, they've lasted more than 13 years now, and they're comfortable to hold onto, just like a leather covered car's steering wheel. Especially in the winter, when it's not quite cold enough to be wearing gloves, they're really nice. I ordered them with built-in PTT switches for both sides, and that's been nice, too--lots better than the cobbled switch that was only on the pilot side when I bought the airplane. They're admittedly a bit pricey, but worth it to me.

I bought these and they fit except they are too thick so the aluminum shafts (brake pivot and master cylinder pivot) need to be longer. Did you make longer shafts to get your's to fit and if so what stock material did you use?

Thanks!

Re: Looking for rudder pedal extensions (SairCorp sux)

I believe that by "shafts", he may mean the pins that attach the pedal to the rudder linkage and the brake master cylinder. I had the same issue with installing the cast pedals in my 182 to replace the stamped aluminium years ago.

The part numbers for these pins are in the parts manual, but you can also just measure them and order from Aircraft Spruce or Genuine Aircraft Hardware.

Remember to allow enough length for the parking brake cables to fit on the end of the pin.

Re: Looking for rudder pedal extensions (SairCorp sux)

Yea I found the part numbers which does me no good because the standard parts are too short for the thicker material on the AP2000's. Was curious if people used 2024 or 6061. I can't find exact dimensions of the raw stock so will have to go with thicker wall thickness. This complicates the 337 which is a major PITA.

Re: Looking for rudder pedal extensions (SairCorp sux)

Substituting an equivalent Cessna part from a later model Cessna is considered by many to be a minor alteration, not a major alteration, and that would mean no 337 is needed, only a logbook entry. Substituting aluminum instead of steel for the shafts would be a bad idea. Using thicker wall thickness on the steel tubing is fine, 'cause the shaft would be stronger, not weaker. Those shafts can be owner produced, or you can order the shafts using the Cessna Parts Manual corresponding to the year of the Cessna the rudder pedals came from.
