Marcy Field Vandalized

One of the gems of the Adirondacks was vandalized after heavy rains the last few weeks. Looks like it will be closed for the rest of the season. Too bad, it's a beautiful grass strip in the mountains with a farmers market you can fly into on Sundays with the Ausable River across the road and several trailheads within walking distance. It's a shame. Hope they find they idiots that did it.

When they catch the nitwits that did this they should be put out there with rakes and hoes to fix the damage and re seed it.

And then, umm....fertilize the new seed with a wood chipper and said perps.

Too dark?

A couple of trail cameras solved the problem on my strip. Word travels fast after the idiot spends a night in jail and his bank account gets emptied.

Re: Marcy Field Vandalized

What is the reason it will be closed for the rest of the season? Is the ground to soft to support the weight to haul fill in? Looks like a easy fix for me but I live in a different area so no idea what soil conditions are there. I agree get some trail cameras. Spy Point has a camera that will text you a photo the instant the picture is taken.

May be a budget issue? I'm sure we could put together a work party and line up some volunteer labor, materials, etc. to help repair the damage? Work with some of the various pilot/aviation groups to get the word out.

Not sure, but my hunch is that’s it’s still pretty soft for any equipment to get on it. I did hear the ruts were pretty deep, 8” or so. Keen is also a very small town and I would guess resources are stretched thin this time of year. I think it’s on the RAF list, so maybe there will be some help there. I will keep an eye on their site. If a work party is organized it would be pretty easy to get up there and help.

Re: Marcy Field Vandalized

I elevated this immediately to the BOD of the RAF. The New York liaison had as well. I think think there will be a grant from the RAF to help with repairs and likely a work party as well.

As soon as I hear something I'll post. The RAF is very interested in keeping Marcy open and viable.

I seem to remember landing at this field many years ago while wave soaring Whiteface and out-landing there, could it be the same airport ?

Likely the same field. Not far from Whiteface.

Re: Marcy Field Vandalized

Not to downplay the vandalism but I'm also curious why it would be closed for 4" ruts.

Hell, I wish the places I fly to all day were that good.

Re: Marcy Field Vandalized

I shared this with RAF leadership, and I believe they are now helping to figure out volunteers to help get it back in shape. Spoke with Bill Brine last weekend up at Spurwink in ME and he said they were on it.
