Re: McKenzie River Trail Oregon, Fly in Mountain Biking.

Planning for Saturday, May 23rd :D

I spoke with the Shuttle company today. They are willing to accommodate us with a pick up from the airstrip and should have room for all bike riders. The 23rd is a Saturday on a holiday weekend so we need to make reservations in advance. I will have that weekend off from work and I am willing to arrange the shuttle reservations. The vans can hold 9 persons with bikes.

I need a number to reserve for. Its $25 per person for the shuttle.

The shuttle company estimates 4.5 to 6 hours to complete the ride. We can arrange for the 9:30am or later.

Of course weather could shut us down.

Who's in?

Ken

Count me in. I may not be able to camp that night, but I can ride.

I plan on being in. I will likely show up the day before and spend that evening too. Mother nature don't cross me now.

Re: McKenzie River Trail Oregon, Fly in Mountain Biking.

The Weather is looking OK for the 23rd, but not perfect. A slight chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 70.

I think we got Clippwagon, Hsivany, Doth. How many in your party? Scolopax and Scottnt, will we see you guys??? Robw56 are you out? Richw56 it would be great to see you for the camp out.

I have not made a reservation for the shuttle yet as the weather has been iffy the last week. Planning to call tomorrow and book for 6 riders and hope they allow for cancelations if the weather does not cooperate. Please let me know if we need more spots.

Cheers,
Ken

.LONG TERM...THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY...PACIFIC NORTHWEST
REMAINS UNDER LONGWAVE TROUGHING THROUGH THE WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT
WEEK KEEPING WEATHER AND TEMPERATURES FAIRLY CONSISTENT. EXPECT
AFTERNOON/EVENING SHOWERS IN THE CASCADES FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.
FRIDAY MAY SEE SHOWERS SPILL WESTWARD INTO THE WILLAMETTE
VALLEY...BUT CONFIDENCE IS LOW. HIGH PRESSURE ATTEMPTS TO BUILD
ONSHORE SUNDAY...WHICH COULD PUSH MOST OF THE MOISTURE OFF TO THE
EAST...THOUGH AS MODELS CONTINUE TO TREND WEAKER WITH THIS RIDGE
SUNDAY IS LOOKING MORE LIKELY TO BE SIMILAR TO SATURDAY WITH SHOWERS
IN THE CASCADES.

Re: McKenzie River Trail Oregon, Fly in Mountain Biking.

I agree with your observation. It's been pretty rainy. I would hate for a four hour ride to turn into eight because of mud  Maybe they can give a trail condition report when you call? Thanks for being the organizer!

I'm not enjoying what I have to type but I just won't be able to make it. I have just to many irons in the fire. To all who can make it, enjoy.

Re: McKenzie River Trail Oregon, Mountain Biking. May 23rd

Looks like Chad, his son and myself will be camping Friday night. Clippwagon will be in in the morning. Shuttle van pickup is at 8am. I don't plan to camp Saturday, I can only get away for one night.

Ive got one extra seat on the shuttle reserved. We can add more but will need to do it soon as they are filling up. 9:30 and 11am vans are full.

The trail is in great shape, they have not gotten much rain the last few days.

My plans to go out to the Alvord Desert fell through, as the playa is saturated with no expectation to dry up by Friday night.

I might fly over Saturday morning and meet up with you guys, but have some stuff going on in life right now and can't commit 100% at this time.

Hope to see you all there

The weather is not looking good for flying in to camp tonight. I'm thinking of flying in the early morning tomorrow. Maybe it will improve by this afternoon.

Re: McKenzie River Trail Oregon, Mountain Biking. May 23rd

It's been raining here all week. Big rain and T-storms yesterday with some local flooding and weather alerts for flash flooding in the area :? Set a new record for rainfall yesterday. Tomorrow was suppose to be clear through the weekend but now they are calling for a 20% chance of rain. I'll be watching closely as well. Not sure what the west side is doing? I can always drive if the weather looks too crazy to fly. Looking forward to the ride!
