Congrats, Dave!
I often tell new pilots that they now have a license to learn. Believe me, the birth of a kid is also a license to learn. The problem is that they don't come with POHs, and even if they did, every one would need a supplement applicable only to that kid which would be 10 times the size of the POH.
To all you guys and gals with little ones--try your hardest to make them your top priority. Many of us whose parenting years are far behind us have regrets because we allowed other things to be more important--ourselves, our work, our hobbies--and that's a huge mistake. They're only young once, and believe me, it's very hard to make up for missing that time because of misplaced priorities.
I'm very lucky, that both of my kids have become my friends in their adulthood, largely because they grew up into remarkable men in spite of the less than great example I set. Both are better than me, and for that I claim absolutely no responsibility. But I do regret not being a much better father, because I could have been.
So don't do as I did, do as I say!
