New Flight Guide Sucks
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
I have to agree with kevbert for all the same reasons.I was ready to renew my FlightGuide but probably not now.As far as all the electronic stuff it is great when it works but I will never depend on it after seeing four new GPS units in seperate airplanes go blank within seconds of each other.I don't get all giggly over gadgets anyway. Most of this stuff is just a new toy for the big kid to play with.

What I wanted to know was, why is it better than a cheap A/FD?
1 ) diagram of every airport showing orientation of runway, position of windsock, length, width, overrun areas, where it's dirt/turf/rough/holes, etc.
2 ) phone numbers of FBOs and their location on the field
3 ) phone numbers of terminals
4 ) phone numbers of car rentals
5 ) phone numbers and distances to local restaurants
6 ) phone numbers and distances to hotels/motels
7 ) phone numbers and distances to recreation sites / parks / etc.
8 ) radio frequency of local AM station
9 ) maps of Class B, C, D airspace with reporting points flagged, runway numbers, expected runway/pattern direction.
10 ) cheap flimsy paper less likely to cause deep paper cuts
There ya go!!

The faster I go , the farther behind I get.
Well....
It appears Airguide Publications has gone Tango Uniform. I broke down and ordered up a set of the "new" Flight Guide books about a year ago. I got a copy of the North Western manual, and a little note saying the South Western was on backorder. Then, nothing.....
Tried calling today, and the phone was no longer in service. The website, gone. At least they only charged me for the book I received.
I loved those little brown books. I still have my original set from decades ago, and it's kinda sad to look through them at all the cool places that have disappeared.

I think that the guys that started it must have retired. They also started American Air Campers and tried to sell that to me before they approached the RAF. I politely declined. They told me they were looking to retire and were looking for people to take on the business. Maybe whoever took on Flight Guide just wasn't up for it.

Just checked. Flightguide.com is now a parked domain. Hopefully they're just a little behind on the bills. Doesn't look good though.

Good... now I don't have to feel guilty about failing to update it. I will continue to carry mine, and backup it's info with my smart phone info when I feel the need. BTW, in a pinch, and if you don't have a workable parking brake, a Flight Guide and a empty beer can (emptied the previous evening) make serviceable chocks. Try that with your i

So, what do all you REAL backcountry pilots with IPads do for ELECTRONS when that battery runs down after four days away from a tit to suck on?
Yep, that is the reason I always pack a solar charger kit. As long as there is sun I have a tit to suck on.

Actually their site was down last week altogether. Glad to see they are still around in whatever form.
