OAD Heat Shields

Just got off the phone with a super nice guy named Bill from Oregon Aircraft Design. I was looking for some nice heat shields for my O520 project, and it looks like his stuff will be nice. I know some dont care, but these are STC'd for the 172/180/185/182. Ill shoot some pics when they arrive.

Nice stuff and fit fairly well. Had to bend and tweak a few places, but no problem as the aluminum was reasonably soft enough.

Re: OAD Heat Shields

just a quick PIRP on these heat shields... Fit and finish is poor. Several of the straight edges are wiggle cut with snips. Tool marks everywhere, with sharp raggedy corners. Only way these will pass muster is to drill out the rivets and spend a couple of hours fixing them. NET NET is they fit fine and will work as advertised, but zero pride of craftsmanship. Save your cash and make your own.

Re: OAD Heat Shields

Doesn’t FA Dodge make some? My 185 has really nice stainless heat shields that I think came from there.

You may be thinking of the little shields that protect the intake hoses from heat?

These shields that Greg is talking about are meant to protect the paint and Lord mounts on the tubular steel engine mount from exhaust heat.

I second Greg's pirep on these things as I installed a set on a 185 earlier this year, good concept, poor execution.

Hmm. Something must of changed. Mine were shear cut and straight. They work as advertised. :-k

Hmm - I bought mine through Spruce last year, besides minor tweaking as was said, they are pretty decent. New batch may have tried to cut costs.
