Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

A few of us met up at Ocotillo yesterday. Great Day! Light winds all day and the runway was in excellent shape

I looked it up & was surprised to see that it's a county airport.
Even more surprised that it has two runways.
Which runway did you use?
Aerial photo didn't show any hangars, or much of anything for that matter--
does that airport get much use?

It's in the middle of a off road recreation area so basically it's a windsock and that's it.

I like it after a good rain which levels everything out and after it dries the crunchy soil under your wheels feels great.

Re: Ocotillo 12/20/20

Yep , not much there . You can walk to a cafe/ bar across the highway when there is no lockdown . Tons of motorcycles and atv’s about , including on and near the runway
9/27 is closed by NOTAM until 2/21 but looks great . 13/31 is in great shape
But we are getting rain Monday so that can change
Its a dry lakebed with no fuel , hangers , or port-a-can .
Borrego is close by and has fuel

Great place to practice anything you want

Re: Ocotillo 12/20/20

It was a great day of flying! So much fun playing on the long dirt strip all afternoon. We all rode in and flew each others planes.

Really interesting seeing the differences first hand between the different wing tips. Ray(sierrasplitter) has stock, Evan (evanr42) has Stewarts, and I have PlaneBooster with Maule M4 (slight droop) tips.

Formation on the way down with Evan (evanr42) was new to me. Can't wait to see the awesome pics he captured, as he's a pro photographer.

It was helpful for me getting away from my home airport where I've just been beating up the pattern working on the tailwheel endorsment. Taking everything I've been learning to another place and still being able to get the plane on the ground close to the intended spot was a big confidence booster.

The loose dirt is much more forgiving than grippy asphalt! [emoji1360]

It is the way.

Re: Ocotillo 12/20/20

I watched the video and the pacer landing seemed fairly normal. I know nothing of Pacers other than what I have read. I thought they had a reputation of coming out of the sky like a rock. The flare in the video didn’t show much float but nobody dropped in either. Comments on the handling near the runway and on rollout? Thanks

I see you're from Canyon Lake--
is that the gated community near Lake Elsinore?
My niece used to live there.
What airport do you base at?

Yes, that's Canyon Lake. I just moved out here this August.

I have the Pacer based at Corona. KAJO. It's about 30 min away. Hangars are fairly reasonably priced there and are pretty nice with good doors, power, etc. Good cafe and community feel there too. Hemet and French Valley are options for me as well, they are also about 30min drive time. I'm still working on my tailwheel endorsment, and my instructor is based at Corona.

Nice looking planes. I especially like the paint scheme on 07A, how they outlined the tail section in a dark color to show off that nice shape. Great idea.
