Official Reno Air Race Thread 2012 - PHOTOS

Just moving this over from the "Gentleman you have a race" thread as some may over look that thread.

Who is coming Reno?

There have been a lot that have spoken of such. Just left Nvflyer a message as his hanger is a great meeting spot.

Wednesday night at my house (6pm) are coming up for dinner in Truckee . All are welcome.

Thursday night we are gathering at the Sante Fe Basque restaurant in Reno at 7pm (great idea Chance).

We should make a plan for Sat/Sun at the races....

If your flying in, Truckee is a great spot to park your plane and you can drive down with us if you want.

Kevin

Strongly suggest asking for radar service if you're within 50 miles of that place. I got vectored 3 times yesterday between lovelock and tahoe.

Howdy Kevin and Gang:
We've been invited to fly in to the National Aviation Heritage Invitational at the Air Races again this year with 65Charlie, our 1954 Cessna 170B. I'll depart Susanville Tues. morning, landing at Stead prior ot 0730.
It's a real privilege to be asked to have our plane there... and we're proud to have taken home the "Best Classic Aircraft" trophy last year. (Dick Rutan presented it to me!)
She may be shiny, but Kevin knows we'll get her dusty, too!
Come by and meet us there,
Bruce and Kathy

Re: Official Reno Air Race Thread 2012

Hi Crew,

I've been a little distracted out in the dust the past few weeks.....but am back in touch now.

Want to let you know that you are all welcome to meet..hang out at my hangar on the field at Stead if you are here for the races. I'm in the "Pit" area, hangar row lined up with the Breitling Tent, second hangar on the left. It's a smaller T-hangar... white with green accent Super Cub inside....lots of comfy furniture, refrigerator, blender and a BBQ. Have to bring your own girls.....OK, I might have a few extra. What more could you ask for?......on second thought, don't ask
I have to be at work during the days, but have told Keven I'd be happy to get a key to any of the group that is going to be around. I'll be out in the afternoons a little after three. The local medical response group, REMSA, are buddies of mine as well, and they have access to the hangar also. All are good guys, so if you stop by....just introduce yourself as a friend from BCP....and make yourself at home.
I'd love to host a BBQ there at the hangar on Saturday night, the evening scene on the field is pretty cool. I know other things are planned....so let me know if this works into the schedule.

Anyway....look forward to crossing paths with any that are around.

NVflyer....Dave

Re: Official Reno Air Race Thread 2012

Hey Dave. Me and my flying buddy would love to hang out Saturday after the races. I can't walk in with adult beverages like hangar owners can but I sure will pay for food and grog if you get it in. :D

Cheers...Rob

Re: Official Reno Air Race Thread 2012

Cant get to the races until Sat & Sun. Until then I have to watch the quals and heat races like an internet junkie.

I always wondered who those guys were watching the races from those hangars...

Re: Official Reno Air Race Thread 2012

Hey there Rob and all.....

I'll be glad to shuttle in any coolers of food or drink you guys would like to get inside.....
Look forward to having any of you at the hangar....the pit area is a pretty cool place to be able to wander through....I think you'd all enjoy it.

I have been known to have a batch of sourdough cakes on the griddle both Saturday and Sunday morning, and you are all invited to join in for that. Also looking forward to BBQ n' up some dinner Saturday evening. I can get us started with some tri-tip and maybe some burgers and fixings......we can figure it out, but sure it will be a good time.

Give me a call when you're going to be around, I'll try to make sure the hangar gets opened....even if I'm having to be at work.

Look forward to crossing paths,

NVflyer...Dave

Looks like close to 10 coming. If you plan to come to Sante Fe Basque on Thursday at 7 speak up. That way we can give them a heads up.

Kevin put me down for 2 at your house Wednesday. I'll call you today. I know your busy flying now.

I feel like a kid right before Christmas.

Re: Official Reno Air Race Thread 2012

The Santa Fe Hotel was a home away from home for Basque herders and laborers. When the casino industry expanded in Reno they held out. Now you see the little two story brick building surrounded by high rise casino buildings. It is still in the same family and the family style meals are still designed for hard working men. 4 courses plus wine and dessert. If you go away hungry it's your fault.
They take reservations for more than 14 but we will alert them when we get a better idea of the number of BCP even if its less.
Good times ahead. Chance
