Friday was a very good day. Spent time in the pits, Daves hangar, QB hangar, T6 Racing association hangar, Chairman's Tent, and general admission grand stand. Almost had to many adult beverages. :D
High clouds and a breeze made it oh so nice.
Saturday will be better.

Re: Official Reno Air Race Thread 2012 - PHOTOS

A really good Jeremy!

I put over 100 photos in that link above. Check it out. Lots of planes and Sawbones...

Strega (souped up P51Mustang) is the winner again...4 years running by Mr. Steve Hinton Jr (24 years young)... #-o He did a 504mph lap today making it the fastest lap in race history I believe..

Rare Bear (Bear Cat) was posting 485mph laps with September Furry (Sea Furry) Chasing close behind. 8 laps in all for the Gold Unlimited heats and on lap 7 1/2 Rare Bear was over heating and had to pull up and out of the race leaving it to September Furry as the 2nd place finisher. In fact the 3rd and 4th place finishers were also Sea furry's with Dreadnaught taking 3rd and Sawbones taking 4th. Miss America, another P51 pulled in the rear and final spot. That left Rare Bear and Precious Metal (a P51 with counter rotating props...A SIGHT TO SEE) DNF....Precious Metal pulled out on the 5th lap in a strong 4th place position but had a gear box door open up on him forcing him to pull up and out of the race.

We keep saying this, but if you have not been to the Reno Air Races....put it you schedule for next year. Even more so the way we are set up in Dave's (NvFlyers) hanger and...if your a member of the EAA, you get to sit in a private seating area.

It makes for a great time and it was a pure pleasure seeing everyone.

Today I met Bob Hoover, shook his hand and picked up a copy of his book. Also sat next to Rod Hightower in the EAA tent and filled him in on our site here among other things. The guy was a true gentleman.

Thanks again Dave! We did not have any fun... :^o

Thats all from me here...until next year....

X2 AKT
I also talked with Bob Hoover. He symbolizes what we were all talking about the other day there. That was really the "greatest generation"
This year the memories of the Races were all good. The BCP made it even better,

Re: Official Reno Air Race Thread 2012 - PHOTOS

We had a great time meeting everybody at the races. We've been going for 6 plus years but this year we had a blast and Dave's hangar hospitality was great. Saturday we spent most of the day in the EAA hospitality tent which was new for us this year--free food and drinks, seats right up front in the SHADE, and best of all, deluxe, air-conditioned executive sani-hut bathrooms!! The BBQ at Dave's was great and felt right at home meeting everybody for the first time. Thank you Dave very much.

Sunday we spent at our favorite spot out on this cul-de-sac out on the course watching the races from a different perspective. Looking forward to next year already. This was my wife's first year joining us and she had a great time.

Great to meet some of the BCP crowd at one of my favorite big aviation events, and I hope to see you all soon out at some small strip showing off your airplanes...

And BIG thanks to Dave for his generous hospitality and a fine place to hang out.

Cheers,

Pete

Re: Official Reno Air Race Thread 2012 - PHOTOS

Wow. What a great week!
Kathy and I got to hang out under the wing of our 170 in the Heritage Area, meeting some of the greatest aviation people ever... including AKTahoe, NVFlyer, OregonMaule, Rob... and too many others to list!
We were surrounded by Race planes, show planes, calendar girls, and sooo many interesting people. Some of the stories and histories I heard from war veterans, test pilots, fellow pilots, etc. will remain with me forever. Truly, it's the stuff our aviation lives are made of, and I am privileged to have had the opportunity.
The BCP Gang came by a number of times, and I even got to meet Kevin's Dad and Jessica. The NVFlyer/BCP hangar served up some great hospitality, too. Thanks, Dave!
I got a chance to meet the young man who just acquired an Avid Flyer, and was he ever jazzed! Steve Henry was there, too. I got to dream a bit more about the Highlander I'd like to build, and to talk with him a bit about the new wings w/ leading edge slats...
Susanville, (my home field) sends quite a few volunteers to the Races, and I also got to spend a lot of time with these local flying friends. All in all, a great week... and hard to return to real life after my Aviation Fantasy Week!
Thanks, too for all the kind words about our shiny 170 :o
