Re: Ozark Flying

Weather looks good so far. Not sure how may will be in our group now . It seems some worry about their jobs and working. Maybe 1 or 2 planes. I am planning on Trigger Gap Friday night 17A.

I'm hoping to make it, and am off, but I've got a rough mag. Hoping it's just a fouled plug, heading out to airport this morning to investigate.

Byrd’s Grass Airstrip – Details and Flying Tips
Fly at your own risk. In accordance with the Arkansas Recreational Use Statute, no fees are associated with the use of this airstrip. Insurance is not provided by the landowner. The Landowner is not responsible for accidents.

Fly light. Do not overload your aircraft. Extra power will be necessary to clear terrain. For example, a Cessna 172 or Cherokee 140 (or similar aircraft) will likely be under-powered with more than 2 people aboard.

Fly smart. The FAA recommends landing to the west and departing to the east (conditions permitting). Watch for other aircraft in the vicinity. Be advised that gusty conditions, especially from the northwest, north, or northeast, can create strong turbulence along the runway. Mountain flying experience is recommended. For accurate wind expectations, check conditions at surrounding airports including Siloam Springs and Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Re: Ozark Flying

Recently got back from Husky/180 touring around Bentonville, AR (KVBT). In nearly 40 yrs of flying I don't think I've come across a friendlier or more helpful airport. The Fly Oz guys: Chip Gibbons, Steve Johnson, Chad and crew were amazing with the effort they put out to make our flying fun. The Airfield Guide is a very complete list and description of backcountry strips. No reason to post my phone pics as they have complete videos of approaches and departures. Spent 4 weeks earlier this year in ID and northern AR is running a very close second for fun flying and variety of tough to easy strips. NO, this isn't a paid advertisement; just had a blast. Going back for a couple of weeks next year and Ozarks will be a yearly trip.

Re: Ozark Flying

+1 on VBT, the people there, and the strips in the area.

We were there about six weeks ago and had a blast flying. Unfortunately, Bentonville was still so locked down that my wife had nothing to do while I was taking instruction, and we wound up eating both dinners at the one place we could find with indoor seating. (The FBO restaurant was closed Monday and Tuesday). If you go, call ahead for the non-flying stuff.

We left after a couple of days to hit Springfield for Bass Pro and Springfield Style cashew chicken.
