That should be a sweetheart airplane. And, that weight is GREAT with those tires  . I've flown one Pacer before and after that wing extension, and that mod really makes the Pacer a much nicer airplane.

I hope she is well used.

As a PA22/20 owner myself I've really enjoyed watching this build via the Facebook posts. Congrats and do let us know how she performs!

He is already having a bit of fun on his way home...

Flew hands off on the first flight.... There are still a few heavy "stock" items that can be replaced to get the weight down some more. Oil cooler, generator and battery could all be replaced... Doing those mods would get the airplane down to what we started with at 1198.

Bender should chime in after he gets home.... Long cross country from Oregon to Virginia Beach...

Looks terrific. Like others, I'll be on the edge of my seat for the flight and trip report.

Re: PA-22/20 project at Steve's

Finally made it home today. Was within 320sm of my home airport two nights ago but had to wait out the weather.

I couldn't be happier with the Pacer. The craftsmanship is top notch and I can't thank Brian and Steve at Steve's Aircraft enough. When I get around to changing the battery I'll be back under 1200 (1198) with 84lbs of tires and wheels. That's fine with me.

I know there are some 29" Airhawk haters out there but they fit my mission for now with heavy pavement use. Eventually I'll upgrade to 31" ABW's. The weight should be about the same.

Photobucket should be on everyone's shit list for ruining so many threads around the internet, like this one. Bender's photos of this refurb are lost.

Choose your image host wisely, or just use BCP to host images.

Here’s his post with the images restored. F Photobucket...they SUCK!

Bender wrote:As some of you know, Brian and Steve at Steve's Aircraft have been working on my Pacer over the winter and spring. The project is nearing completion (just a few weeks out now) so I thought I would show off some of their work here. This is just a small sample of the photos that Brian has taken. He has over 300 photos of the project posted on his business' facebook page. A/C will be Daytona white (khaki) with a Bahama blue stripe and black interior. Brian and Steve recovered the wings and tail surfaces a few years ago so those are being left alone except for the addition of VG's.

A list of upgrades to my PA-22/20-160 :

2 Steve's Gascolators (already had one)
Crosswinds STOL cuff (previous mod)
Micro VG's
Steve's skylight (previous mod)
29" buffed Airhawks w/ Gar aero adapters
Cleveland wheels and single puck brakes (I'll need to uprgrade these later but better than the drums that were on there)
Cubcrafter's wingtips (previous mod)
Boxed in tail of a/c
reinforced landing gear and added refueling step
406 ELT
new interior (had this done right before I dropped off the a/c at Steve's)
Added shoulder harness mounting points for the rear seats
shoulder harness front (previous mod)
LED nav/strobe lights (previous mod)
Recovered fuselage Poly stits / blasted and powder coated the airframe
lightweight starter
rotating beacon
Maule fuel selector valve

Permanently on the back burner.... One of those projects that has too little gained for the amount put in....

Who knows, I may finish it someday or might entertain selling the idea to someone else who wants to go through with it... For now, we are selling our flying PA-28-180 that we purchased for doing the flight testing and putting the idea on the shelf...
