You caught me! I know that's the same location, but is that actually me? It looks like it could be with color of the plane and parking spot, but I can't zoom in clearly enough to tell! Thanks for sharing!

I'm pretty sure its the same plane and spot, but a different day. The tent is behind the trees and I remember the blue tent fly. I was in an A star. We were looking to see where people were camped just incase during the Cactus Fire.

That's definately me then! The picture I posted was from the year before. I tried to wave you in to land a couple of different times so we could let you know our status and you could stop scaring all of the elk away  , but no dice! Lots of aircraft traffic that week! I did get to see an old friend (Pat S.) when they drove into the area surveying the number of people from the ground and advising of the potential evacuation plan even though the fire was still a long ways away. Looked like a pretty fun job cruising the Astar. Were you pilot or passenger? Next time stop in!

My 1953 AC 520 at Medicine Bow dirt strip in Wyoming on or way to Chicago, just half a day before she blew two cylinders. Notice domestic arrivals terminal in background.

Day trip to Twentynine Palms to check out derelict 520. No, not the one in the picture!

This is the first picture I ever took of her and also the first time I laid my eyes on her in person in Michigan. Less than a month later we ferried her back to her new home in California. It's been a steep learning curve and an expensive first year sorting all squawks out, but looks like all the bugs are ironed out now. She's a great short field performer and a stable and comfortable long range tourer. The best of both.

It's crazy I guess but if I ever had the dough to own a twin it would probably have to be a Baron. But I'd always want to pretend I was in an Aero Commander. Maybe a Shrike 500. Yeah that's it, normal engines would be OK. Forget the Baron. Shrike.
